Never mind, I looked at Icy rays again and the immobilization is just until the end of next turn, not until ended by a save. So that could provide only a turn's worth of melee attacks.

Tharos could try Icy Rays to immobilize (save ends), if you can get it to the ground. With spell focus and orb of imposition, it would need a 15 to save. Assuming I've counted right. Of course, I'd have to hit it first.

I suppose it's worth asking; if you immobilize a flying creature, does it fall to the ground? Don't have my books with me, or I'd look myself.

Many flying creatures need to remain moving to stay in the air, so immobilizing them causes them to crash. However, this dragon comes with Hover, so it doesn't need to move or spend actions to fly - so I don't think immobiliziing will cause it to fall.

Note that as a solo monster, the dragon has a save bonus of +5.

Flying. Right. Forgot about that.

Does it have a ranged attack, or does it have to wait for it's lightning bolt?
(I suppose we'll find out...)

At least Tornado Strike is melee or ranged, so you can still use it.

People have made the monster knowledge check, so you know it does have a Lightning Burst attack that hits an area from range. It's in the first post on the thread.

[sblock=thanks]for adding me in the waiting list. In case, I have two characters ready for when it might be needed, both built at lvls 11,16,20(and easily adapted): a generalist wizard/divine oracle and a specialized dwarf fighter/iron vanguard[/sblock]

Dang. I wish I'd noticed that before I unloaded Excruciating Shot. :(
But if you get the dragon to be effected, or force it to hold off using a good attack that's not meaningless.

For the record my new game plan is the same as the old one, except for the statement: if the dragon is just going to hang out above us and not do much then I think we should focus fire on the stormrages.

So long as we stay near each other it can't pick us off (too) easily. When it lands everyone will get one action.
We should be able to produce enough status effects to keep it from getting away easily.

If it is 5 sq above ground, I could attack the dragon's will to teleport it down and attack one enemy.
Obviously this has a lot of potential. I'm not sure whether we should pull it out immediately, or wait. It'll take a few rounds to take this guy apart, and the dragon will almost certainly try to escape during the interim.

If we can slow/walking wounded/etc then we can use this to pull him back the difference (maybe? just thinking about it).
