Without magic items and assuming use of a heavy shield, I think Jack should have F: 25 (10 base, +8 for half your level, +6 from STR mod, +1 from race), Reflex: 22 (10, +8, +1 for Dex, +1 race, +2 shield), and Will: 26 (10+8+5+1, +2 from class).

The +2 to saves comes from Human Defence Bonus +1 & Human Perserverence +1 feat bonus

The DMG suggests 1 item level+1 ; 1 item =level ; 1 item =level-1
and gold = to level-1 to buy other stuff.

The human defense bonus adds to defense scores, not to saving throws.

Yup. Do it this way, at least for KK1.

The encounter is between 60~70% done. (sorta hard to judge; 2 of the encounters are 90% done, with maps even -- the other one I need a bit of feedback on).
I have a thread up on the 4e boards to get feedback (no responses yet but...)

With three encounters I've tried to throw in a bit of variety, we'll see whether it works out take way or not.

Personally I could see us starting early next week (I can't run combats over the weekend really). Of course, if I'm drastically wrong somewhere then fixing that may take time.

What's the differences? I don't see a different area on the character sheet for saving throws... sorry for the totally idiotic questions.
 

There is no place for saving throws, as they're all the same. You roll a d20 and try to get a 10 or better. If you do, the effect ends. If you get a bonus, you add it to the roll as usual. Saves are really only for ongoing effects, while defenses are for initial attacks by someone else.
