There's no actual number for the pull effect; it just pulls you into its space. So presumeably reducing its indeterminate pull by 1 would still leave it with enough.
If you had something that could cancel the forced move entirely, that should work.
I guess I was just looking at position; I was one square away when it pulled me one square into it. Seems like the pull effect couldn't be any more than two squares, simply because the melee attack that generates the effect has a maximum reach of two squares.
It's all good though. Hopfully I can roll a ten before Narbel's dead.
