D&D 4E 4E PHP cover art changed

The Green Dragon pic is reminiscent of the cover of the original BD&D cover. I think, not only is it a great pic, it's a great homage as well. And isn't it currently being used for the PC record sheets? What a complete waste of a great pic.

Too much dragon, not enough adventurer for the PHB cover. If the dragon was background and the adventurers foreground it would be fine.

exactly. Its not the fight with the dragon that makes d&d, its the adventure along the way to fight the dragon that makes d&d in my humble opinion.

AFAIK, the green dragon pic is slated to be the box art for the DDM starter set. They tend not to re-use art in that way but it wouldn't surprise me if they needed to do so in a pinch. It would seem to me that submit-the-document-to-be-published-season should be fast approaching for them if they are looking at summer releases for this stuff.

Being afraid of Satan is hilarious.

I have already said that this is inappropriate for these boards. And the rules clearly stipulate that you're supposed to avoid this kind of thing.

Take three days off to consider being more considerate of the rules, and your fellow human beings.

I am not joking, folks. Making fun of religious beliefs will not be tolerated. If anyone cannot understand why, or has some other question about this, please feel free to e-mail me, or any other mod. Our addresses are available in a post stickied to the top of the Meta forum.

Probably looked too much like a devil so wasn't suitable in some parts of the world where the religious nuts would claim D&D is all about Satan worship...Odd because I would have thought that would be more of an issue in the US Bible belt than other countries.

I think you need to be a bit more careful about the term "religious nuts". There are several parts of the world were selling a book with a "devil" like figure on the cover would cause some controversy (not to mention possible economic reprucussions). This sort of religious belief is just part of the culture. I don't think that something on this level is fanatic thinking.

On the contrary; the obvious homage to the B/X covers are part of what made that among the best 4e preview artwork that I've seen.

I'm all for moving forward, not looking back, but a quick roots check once in a while is usually a good thing. Especially when it's something as innocuous as a cover art that's clearly an homage.

So, is Scott Rouse's shirt covered in flowers, or is it just up in the shoulders area, like an embroidered "Western/cowboy" shirt? If it's the latter, I kind of like it.

Not 'like', I think that's what it is.
