D&D 4E 4E PrRC ~v2.7~ FINAL UPDATE May 29.08

I just realized that the Tiefling Wizard has an extra language... maybe that is where the other trained skill went? Perhaps you can spend one of a trained skill to acquire another language?

This would give wizards 4 trained skills!

Tieflings:
Languages: Common, choice of one other

Tielfing Wizard from D&DXP:
Languages: Common, Elven, Goblin

Updated to v2.3

Edit (May 5):
Updated to v2.3
• Added racial feats from the Racial Benefits excerpt http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4ex/20080502a
• Edited Skill Challenges from the Skill Challenges excerpt. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4ex/20080505a
• Added bonus trained skill: History, to Eladrin (since the ranger pregen has an extra trained skill). (jaldaen)
• Moved the bonus feat back to the ranger and away from the Eladrin (feat is maybe from an archer build option??)
• Changed several powers “Attack” line from melee or ranged to Str or Dex to more closely follow the standard ability vs defense pattern (jaldaen)
• Corrected Class Summary table’s skills for cleric and ranger. (jaldaen)
• Added a note for the Paladin’s Divine Strength power to indicate the bonus might be +Str instead of +2. (jaldaen)
• Changed the Dragonborn’s breath weapon attack to “Attack: Str, Con or Dex vs. Reflex” instead of vs Fortitude.

Tira, the half-elf Warlock also has a 3rd language, which would give the warlock 5 trained skills. I did have the wizard with 4 trained skills, with the extra skill being spent on a language as you suggest, but it breaks down when you add Tira to the mix. The other alternative is that the half-elf gains an extra bonus language of their choice, and the wizard spend a training point in a language.

Other thing to note is that both Tira and Skamos have Int >15, which might have something to do with the extra languages?

Good point about Tira... I suppose at this point the question becomes which is more likely... 5 trained skills for the warlock and 4 for the wizard or 4 for the warlock and 3 for wizards. I think that if fighters and paladins get 4, it is probably the bottom floor for skills.

This is also a good alternative... I could see it breaking either way:

Warlocks with 5 trained skills or Half-elves with a bonus language.

But I think both of these options are more probable then Wizards with 3 skill points.

I doubt Int plays a role in langauges known... Tira has a 15 Int and +1 language (assuming common and elven are auto), while Skamos has 20 Int and +1 language. It would be very strange to have an extra language mechanic that gives the same benefit to a 15 Int as to a 20 Int character.

The paladin entry is still missing Safeguard Smite from the Paladin Smites preview. Edit: Or is the assumption that Safeguard Smite became Shielding Smite? I'd guess so.

Also, the fighter now needs "[NOTE: The pre-generated fighter from DDXP by WotC has +1 attack that cannot be identified at this time]"

Passing Attack for the fighter still says Melee vs. AC, despite the others being Str vs AC

Which reminds me, I have a question - when a power says "Strength vs. AC" and it's a martial exploit, do you include the bonuses to hit that a weapon provides?

That makes martial powers way more likely to hit - but I guess the majority of them go against AC, which is usually higher . . .

I'll change this in v2.4 - thought I caught them all.

My understanding is that if the power has the 'Weapon' keyword, then you add the weapon's proficiency bonus to the attack roll. Same with implements for powers with the keyword Implement, such as a Wand +1.

You are right about the AC usually being harder to hit, so weapon proficiency bonuses help to bring it back in line.

Yes, this is what I'm going with.

Also, the fighter now needs "[NOTE: The pre-generated fighter from DDXP by WotC has +1 attack that cannot be identified at this time]"

I'll add this in...I was just waiting until Wednesday's weapon's excerpt to see if there was something else going on behind the scenes...like Constitution being used for her attack with a Warhammer perhaps?
Con +4 +1 Fighter +1 Proficiency = 6

One more: On Pain of Death says 3[W] + Cha damage, even though the sample character doesn't have a weapon that does 1d8 damage (and it's an implement power).

Reasonable guess with the warhammer--one of the earliest Design and Development columns said "'Yeah. I thought about going high Con and using a hammer...'" so that's quite possible.

Guess not. Simplest answer I guess would be to just change the proficiency bonus on the warhammer from +1 to the standard +2, for now.
