[4e] The Wolfcrown, Chapter 1

"Hmm.. Prehaps this does call for a touch of Munsu's deception," Torath comments after the shapechanger reveals itself. "But I will go up behind you incase a more direct approach is called for."

[sblock=OOC] What do we do for healing in between encounters I'm not sure still new to the 4e [/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]For the sake of simplicity in record-keeping, you'll heal all the way up to full during every short rest (5-10 minutes, like what we're doing now). So everybody is fully healed. Now we just gotta wait for Squeal, then we can move upstairs. How exciting![/sblock]

Squeal, Warforged Barbarian

Squeal nods "This one will follow, ready to aid if things go badly. This one is not so good at deception."

"Right then," drawled Thorn in the corporal's voice and manner. "First things first. Those of ye that can, hide yer weapons. If they're too big to hide, pass them to me. I can think of reasons to be movin' ye in yer armor, but not while yer armed."

"Second..." he looked over at Hedge. "Do ye want to be bound and gagged, so ye don't seem to be in collusion with 'dangerous escapees'?"

Hedge turns his gaze downward. It's obvious that he's humiliated by this turn of events. His men stand around and watch helplessly as their commanding officer loses his nerve. Corporal Hedge shakes his head slowly.

"Just leave. We'll come up after you. We may be letting you go, but not one of us is going to be tied up or gagged. Get going."

He turns around and sits on the cold stone floor. It becomes obvious that Hedge no longer wants to talk to you.

[sblock=ooc]I'm just going to assume everyone's going to keep moving upstairs. If there's anything you'd like to do or say beforehand, just indicate it in your post.[/sblock]

As Thorn leads the party upstairs, the sounds of battle echo in the distance. Stealthily, you approach the next floor only to find it empty. It seems that Hedge's reinforcements have left their posts.

The next floor up is Castle Hood's ground level. As you emerge from the dank stairwell, the half-molded smell of the dungeons is replaced by that of the slightly perfumed royal palace. The massive, ornately decorated silver door of the castle stands a few yards in front of you. This is your chance for escape. As you look around, though, you hear the sounds of clanging swords and the growl of a fierce battle coming from upstairs. The fight wouldn't hinder your escape. Of that, you can be sure.

[sblock=Choice]You must decide whether to escape or to go investigate the fighting. You may split up if you like.[/sblock]

Baern reluctantly hands over his hammer to the shapchanger. "But I'll be hangin' on to this," he says as he tucks his divine rod into a gap in his armor.
---------------------------------

Baern's ears perk at the sounds of battle upstairs. "Bah, could it be that the killer is already here makin' trouble?"

"It could be the killer or some hired hand either way we can not let it pass. My sword 'corporal'." Torath says holding out a hand.

Thomas shakes his head. "Is nothing ever easy? I cannot think of a scenario in which we shouldn't lend our assistance."

"What say the rest of you?"

"I sounds like something is going on and the person that might have set us up could be just up those stairs....too many if's as this could also be a trap of some kind but I agree... however.... in the name of Blackmoors justice it needs investigation... which I am honor bound to weather I am a criminal or not.... says the proud cleric of the God of Justice and Law and retakes his mace nicely from Thorn if 'he' is willing to give it and stalks up the stairs as quietly as one can in chainmail.....

"You're all insane," Thorn stated flatly. "Whatever's going on, it's giving us a chance to escape. If whoever this is, is ripping through the castle guard, then what makes you think we'll fare any better?"

He makes no bones about giving weapons back though, not wishing to be the focus of the group's ire.
