[4e] The Wolfcrown, Chapter 1

Squeal, Warforged Barbarian

"The Captain suggested up" Squeal notes as he adjusts his armour and weapons "Down might lead to a dead end, or hidden escape tunnel but this one will leave that choice to the others"

Squeal hefts his weapons and moves into a guard position in the stairwell.

Thorn is quiet at first, and didn't even stand up. In her experience, when someone burst in and demanded that you hurry, it was usually time to pause and think. Then again...

As much as she couldn't find a reason for this Captain to care if they lived or died, and she couldn't understand why the real killer would care if they lived or died...since none of them knew who the real killer was...this still constituted an opportunity for freedom. Once free, she could try her luck in some other city, and the entire question of who had killed the king, and why, and so on...would be entirely irrelevant.

And that was worth taking some chances for.

"We're in the dungeons," she said shortly. "As a rule, they're either in high towers, or buried under the foundations. This is all a bit too big for a tower, which means we go up."

Her gear and accoutrements accounted for, she got to her feet and glided towards the staircase up, pausing to listen at the foot of it to see if she could hear any commotion coming from above.

[sblock=ooc] Sorry, I meant to mention this earlier. The dungeon you're in is in fact underground, so going up will presumably lead to the surface.[/sblock]

[sblock=Staircase Up]Thorn listens at the staircase. Her ears almost immediately pick up the sound of a stationary patrol of guards. They seem to be on the next floor up, near the top of the stairs. Their murmurings communicate a sense of fear. "I heard they already found out who really killed the king. Those poor, unlucky bastards. They're all gonna hang tomorrow, just because they can't catch the other bastard." Another soldier replies, "The courts haveta make somebody pay. By Munsu's blade, someone tricked 'em good."[/sblock]

It's obvious that the soldiers above you are in position to guard that staircase.

[sblock=Staircase Down]You can't discern the sound of any guards down there, but it's dark as pitch. You do, however, detect the sound of several animals sleeping.[/sblock]

After helping and be helped into his armor, Torath stands near the stairwell sword in hand. "The Captain said we should avoid attention so maybe an unexspected route is in order." He says with a nod to the stairwell leading down. "Maybe we will find an old unused way to the surface and are freedom."

Around the table, it's assumed that when a character hears something, they share that new info with the group. Can I assume the same thing here with regards to what Thorn just heard?

Going to assume in this instance that Thorn has, in fact, shared this tidbit. But am fine with whatever is appropriate going forward.

Gathering his things, Thomas exits the cell.

"Sounds like your instincts were spot on, Thorn. This is unconscionable! I'm no bounty hunter..."

Shaking his head, Thomas continues, "...but I guess that doesn't matter now, does it?"

"Regardless, unless we can quickly and quietly remove the patrol upstairs I vote we go down."

[sblock=Sharing of Information]Please assume that information is going to be shared unless the player who saw or heard it EXPLICITLY states that he's going to withhold the information from the group.[/sblock]

[sblock=Vote]UP or DOWN?[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Switching my color to maroon because yzard is using orange....[/sblock]

"You heard the Captain he didn't want us killing anyone... I change my vote to 'down' to avoid needless violence with actual people.." Doren said softly as he grabbed this last of his gear up and prepared himself....

[sblock=quick note]If you're in combat and you reduce an enemy to 0 HP, you can have the option to knock that enemy unconscious instead of killing it. Just so everybody is aware. If you are trying to knock the enemy out instead of killing him, please make sure to declare that you're using NON-LETHAL force.[/sblock]

Switching my color to maroon because yzard is using orange....

Sorry about that, Rathan. It didn't even occur to me that everyone might want a different color for their character's speech. Feel free to use DarkOrange if you'd prefer it (what I have been using)
