Given thread name, i want to explain my pov...i have played D&D for about 20 years, every time there was an updating, from red box to adv,to 3rd ed etc, me and all my group of players and friends were very excited and happy, even if someone had always something to regret about, but we did enjoy the changes, and gladly changed system; let me tell you,we're not a "regular"group of players, we're quite in the establishments, being the organizers of one of the most important game convention of entire europe, Lucca comics&games, and we are a big community of "old players", being more than 30 people that plays D&D from 10 to 20 years, and we have met in the 10 years we worked in the exhibition at Lucca, most of writers, authors and illustrators of rpg market.
Of all these, D&D has remain the only game we never ever stop playing; we were very excited about this 4th edition, we thought that it would push D&D forward adding more internet interaction, giving character the possibility to sustain more combat per session, etc...when we bought the PH, we were excited to the limit, everybody gone home to read it in full calm and we decided to met after 3 days to discuss our impressions....so,everyone of us was stunned by the absolute suckness of this game, from every point you may try to see it, from the art inside, to rules,to what the did they do casters, to pantheon,etc....so i started to write to the numerous friends we have in the world, to ask if this was just us,here,in italy,in this little corner of the world, but as i expected, every men and women i wrote had the same response:
This will be the last edition, they ruined the game beyond any repair...all the base of gamers will be lost, and new ones will be impossible to be recovered with this :):):):).
From the art, wich is incredibly the WORST, and this truly i cannot explain why, they did such an improve with 3rd edition we were waiting to see a redundant and spectacular art in the books, having learned how important that is from the various ccg...the problems with this editions were so many we cannot even list them all..but,full of hopes, still, we expected that FR will adjust the plain suckness of these products...as i told you, i'm quite in the market, i've seen a final version of the FR handbook, and nothing there will save 4th edition.
As i said before, the problems with 4th ed are so many it is impossible to write them all in a forum post, but i want to pick the most relevant for us, who had tried to play it in these 2 months....the characters, from the eroic to the epic tier are plain boring, you end up using 4/6 powers, roll some dices for dmg sand go on...absolute lack of variety, magic is meaningless, classes are confused and all they can do are simple tricks that resemble more a very complicated board game than the 1st rpg of history.
It is a complete sadness, this very night we decided to stop play D&D, first time in 20 years, we agreed that it was extremely more fun to make an instance at wow and than go out for a bear than playin that :):):):).
I'm so sorry....but,i see here none is catching these points, this greatly surprises me, because i've been discussing about how terribly wrong was this edition with about 100 competent gamers from around the world from the exhibition mail list, witch comprehends lots of game designers even from wizards of the coast, and everyone agreed this will be the end of D&D,no exception.
SO,or this forum is somewhat observed and this type of post being removed, or your community is extremely strange, and that was not the case, i think.
Let me know.

Let me know.

Your first mistake was reading the Player's Handbook first. It plays great, but reads terrible. The Dungeon Master's Guide on the other hand, really sets the tone for 4th Edition and should definitely be read FIRST. Also, if you want to sound more valid in your complaint of the new edition, you HAVE to list your examples of why you don't like it (no matter how numerous). Nobody is going to take you seriously otherwise. Also, prepare yourself as there are always a couple of rabid fanboys who think it is their duty to refute you on each of your claims in defense of the system. They may make some good counter-points though, so don't disregard them--just don't let them get to you. :)

Being a fan of 4th Edition myself, I sincerely hope you later find that you initial observations turned out to be wrong and that this is a game that can be enjoyed. If not, play 3rd Edition (or whatever edition you are most comfortable with). It won't effect me or my group in the slightest. :)

EDIT: I also just noticed this was your first post. WELCOME TO THE BOARDS! :D

2nd edition is the worst. One of its main objectives was to strip out previous designer's names (Gary Gygax for example) and it didn't improve the game system. The sphere system handcuffed Clerics, Assassins were no more, Bards got wrecked, etc.

If you haven't found the issues you listed being discussed on these forums you haven't looked very hard. There are many threads here in which people debate the pros and cons of 4E.

If you don't like it, don't play it. It's not like Monopoly where you'll be forced to pour your own cement shoes at gunpoint if you don't play.

In this thread: unsuccessful trolling. Or at least, this looks a lot like it.
A brief summary of your post could be:
"4° Edition is the end of D&D, it sucks. I care not to explain my opinion properly, of course. However that's not important, because if you don't agree with my opinion that means you are stupid or controlled.
Oh, and I never played 4° Edition, btw. I just badmouthed it with hundreds, thousands and millions of raging gamers."
Return to the 5° Clone, I'm quite sure you come from there.

Oh, and Lucca Comics sucks compared to Romics, anyway.

What's worse? A "potential" troll? Or an obvious flamer? :hmm:

Welcome to the boards, thyaxx!

From the art, wich is incredibly the WORST, and this truly i cannot explain why, they did such an improve with 3rd edition we were waiting to see a redundant and spectacular art in the books, having learned how important that is from the various ccg...

So: 4e sucks because you don't like the book art?

....the characters, from the eroic to the epic tier are plain boring, you end up using 4/6 powers, roll some dices

So: You've played PCs from each tier (Heoric, Paragon, and Epic), and you've found them boring? How many game sessions was that?

...absolute lack of variety, magic is meaningless, classes are confused and all they can do are simple tricks that resemble more a very complicated board game than the 1st rpg of history.
So: The PCs you played had no variety, and their class roles were confused? The magic items your PCs had were meaningless?

I'm so sorry....but,i see here none is catching these points, this greatly surprises me,

So: You've read over (some of) these message boards, and found no one that agrees with your assessment?

.. everyone agreed this will be the end of D&D,no exception.

Perhaps you should re-read the above statement.

This is a rules forum...it is for people who want to play 4e and have rules questions, thoughts, etc. You don't want to play 4e. This post belongs in the general d&d discussion forum. Even there, I doubt anything good will come of this.

Welcome to the boards. You are in the wrong forum, but by far the worst edition, IMO, was the one I learned on - the three little books in a white box. Each little book contradicted the others and was full of typos, but they opened up a whole different type of game from the miniatures and war games I played at the time.
