(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Team Lake

The kayaks were dragged to the side, in the shallow water around the cave entrance. The stream flowed into the cave, where it picked up speed again as it twisted away into darkness. There was a narrow, slippery-looking bank along both sides of the stream-tunnel. But Sventlana scouted ahead, and where the tunnel bent to one side or the other, while travelling inward and downward, the trail periodically washed out. After the terror of the river, it was nice to be out of the kayak and on solid ground, but it seemed likely that going on foot could potentially lead to someone falling in the fast-moving stream.

A choice lay before them: Should they enter the tunnel in their Kayaks, or walk the narrow bank?

TEAM LAKE – CAVE ENTRANCE [Short Rest?]

The side stream was a much gentler journey than the river rapids had been and Shade-9 felt a lightness of being as he perfected his paddle technique and enjoyed the sounds of water against seal-hide. Reaching the cave, it appeared that the team intended to rest, so helping to bring to kayak to the bank Shade-9 disembarked, his feet sank slightly in the silt.

Aywin’s offered a hand in comradery and Shade-9 accepted the gesture without hesitation "Yes, Good work". [[Subject: Aywin] Positive Reinforcement #Tag: Ally]

Approaching Loklafd as the elder made his offer to accompany the team, Shade-9 extracted a strip of alchemical gauze from a compartment in his gauntlet and without comment knelt down to examine the warriors wounded arm.

"This will assist" he stated as he ensured that the wound was clean then carefully applied the gauze which tightened as it adhered to the skin, releasing the scent of eucalyptus and witch hazel "the bandage is organic, it will cleanse the wound from any contamination and assist the flesh to reknit itself".

"Does anyone else require assistance?" Shade-9 looked over the rest of the party, processing their various activities with a sense of genuine interest in their wellbeing. "[Subject: Loklafd] is stable, I recommend we confirm his inclusion in Mission operations"

His attention now back on the mission, the Warforged turned his gaze to the cave, optics scanning the darkness ahead "also recommend using the Kayaks will optimise entry to the cave system. But for now rest"

[Awaiting reconnaissance from [Subject: Svetlana]. Recommend: Short Restore and Update Protocols

Shamal had known heat, but he'd rarely known a face full of flame. His eyes were drier than the Ukabi Dunes as he slashed his shamshir at the driver, who blocked with a metal vambrace, hidden under the sleeves of his greatcoat. He began to chant, and his face welled up, as if he would produce the breath of a dragon by magic - but then he staggered to the side, struck by Merrick's javelin. Quickly after, he fell dead on the road, with an arrow through his face, sent by Copper.

The younger cultist had let Merrick go, afraid to face him head on, but when his back was turned and he'd gained some distance, the cultist sent a burst of flame that burned up his back. Corrah finished him off with two arrows sent from the cliff above.

All their foes lay dead. The oxen shuffled their feet.

OOC: Cultist2 did 5 Fire to Merrick (2? He resists Fire, right?) and Corrah finished him off. Oops! No prisoners.

Shamal cursed lightly under his breath at the fallen bandit. May al-Raml destroy your tent and all those who live in it. He knew that he had nearly been bested by his own exuberance, and did not want the others to see him weak. He channeled the healing powers of the water to heal his scorched visage before looking up with a replenished grin.

Perhaps next time one of these bandits would do us a service and not die so easily!

Merrick's back is singed pretty bad. He didn't think the cultist would attack him and throw his life away after Merrick had given him a chance. But Merrick that was out of the soldier's control.

"I guess that didn't go as planned." He bends down to frisk the dead fanatic,

"
Maybe they have information on them we can use to bluff our way past the guard station. We should see what supplies are in the wagon and check all the mercenaries."

He turns and shouts up the cliff, voice booming again,

"Let's search everything to see if there's anything we can use for our bluff" *

Merrick was convinced

*What's the point of having thaumaturgy if you never use it.

Barbarians take full damage from fire.

Searching the Fanatic for clues. I rolled pretty poorly but Merrick is taking his time.

Corrah produced a rolled up scroll from her shoulder-bag and announced, "Anyone know of to read spells off of scrolls? Volyanna gave me something in case we couldn't get them to talk while they're alive. She says it 'makes the dead answer questions'. I don't know how to read it, but I bet one of you fellows can!"

OOC: Corrah can be useful at times. So can Volyanna.

TEAM LAKE - Bjorn

Bjorn thanked Aywin for drying him and Bill. He then turned to the others.

"Seems the best way forward, at least for most of you, is back into the boats once we rested up a bit. As for me, I think these waters are deep and calm enough for a swim. Loklafd, go ahead and take my seat in the boat. Just take good care of Bill, 'right?"

He then offered some dried salmon to Bill.

Team Lake

Loklafd disassembled his smaller kayak, rolling up the tattered sealskin. He revealed the inner frame, much of which was made from whalebone, or a hard but bendable pale wood. He threw a few cracked or broken pieces under a tree, but he bundled the rest and stowed it in the stern of one of the two other kayaks. He looked both of them over, and made a few adjustments to them in preparation of using them again in the tunnel.

OOC: Yes, you can Short Rest. In fact, you can Level Up to Level FOUR

Team Ambush

Lorent walks down the path looking at the carnage.
"I can check the scroll, but I'm no priest. Maybe Sapphirrion might help? Are you ok? Will we take a breather while we check the cargo and look for documents?"

OOC: If we're taking short rest and leveling up, Lorent can cast two Cure wounds @2nd level) - how hurt is everyone?
