D&D 5E 5-Part Forgotten Realms Adventure Coming Next Week

From Polygon comes a report that WotC is releasing for download an anthology of five adventures for character levels 8-10 on June 29th to celebrate the Magic the Gathering: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms card set.

Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, a Dungeons & Dragons-themed set of cards for Magic: The Gathering, is introducing something special — and free — for fans of D&D. A substantial role-playing adventure will be made available for download starting around June 29. Wizards made the announcement earlier this month during a private press event.

In the past, new sets of Magic cards have been heralded by some excellent digital fiction — lengthy and well-written short stories that set the mood for the coming cards. This time around, publisher Wizards of the Coast is taking a different tack. Instead of short stories, it’s releasing a module for characters level eight through 10. Meris Mullaley, world-building and narrative design manager at Wizards, said that there would be five adventures. Each will run between 15 and 20 pages in total.

That's a pretty interesting level range -- presumably to make traveling the planes at some point in the adventure easier. And at a total of between 75 and 100 pages, it's a pretty significant work.

Huh. I wonder if this is where we get all that Drizz't and drow material applied to. Makes sense, as the team likely wants to use all that commissioned art for something, and having a multi-part drow focused storyline seems like a good way to introduce all those new sects of drow.

It certainly seems like one of the 2022 releases will be Underdark-tastic, unless all the dragon stuff is just way premature and the Underdark book drops in November.

Possible! I'm hoping this 5-part series is where all this drow material goes, mostly because I don't really want another bare-bones, art free complementary module. I like when it looks nice!

It sounded in some of the press work like the Franchise team were doing legwork for providing background material for TV, film and video game projects current and future...but it wouldn't surprise me.

It might be less a 5 part sequence, and more 5 interlocking modules meant for characters roughly the same level.

I just realized, probably each module will be color themed based on the cards in the Set.

It's also possible that it's going to be 15 to 20 pages total, which would be a much more reasonable span, and Polygon just misinterpreted what was said/written at the press event.

Maybe. Then they could have the art paid for as a marketing expense, which opens the adventure to having more art than it would otherwise, especially since they've already been reusing these pieces.
