Great! Thanks. It's a design I suggested to someone in a thread somewhere that I thought I'd try -- focusing on perception/investigation/knowledge skills. Hope it works.

What do you guys think about adding in more roleplay, traps, and outside-the-box elements to this game? You didn't sign on for much of that when we started, as I clearly billed this as a straight-up hack and slash dungeon. I find, however, that I am missing the rp, at least. Let me know what you think, what you prefer. If we, as a group, want to keep the game hack and slash, that's fine; I'll run us through the dungeon and then close out the game when done.

I would be happy to include more roleplay, although (of course) Guran Glimnode hasn't heard about it yet -- but then, he has always been sort of slow on the uptake. After all, he has merely average Charisma and Intelligence; and, so far, his main contributions to the party have been to hear things before other people do, and to fare badly on both attack rolls and INT (Investigation) rolls.

Maybe Guran could be taught that the party doesn't automatically need to attack everything on sight. I think he's open-minded enough to be teachable in that way.

There is enough refuse in the room that it can be moved and stacked against a door to create a barricade. The doors you have encountered so far have all opened outward toward the hallway and corridor.
This is the kind of statement that will keep me up at night five months in the future, when I try to remember what the deuce I said back in February about doors and how they open.

ALL: I purchased the 5e PHB. It was my treat to myself last Saturday as a reward for earning my first post-law school paycheck. I haven't read the darned thing yet in its entirety (work! family!), but I own it, so it's now officially a source for this game. Kobold Stew has used the Human variant rules and done some custom crafting for his character. I like what he's done, and want to open up the same options to everyone. If we are going to do some actual in-character roleplaying, it makes sense to expand options. Now is a very good time to do so; we're in between combat, you just leveled up, and we're adding a new player. If it's in the PHB, even as a variant, please consider it available to you. If you wish to further tweak, modify, and customize, go for it. You should all have characters you want to play and enjoy.

A note on Encumbrance: We won't institute the optional rule on Encumbrance so long as equipment choices remain within the realm of reason. I would much rather free us to play, rather than burn time tracking character sheets.

Kobold Stew, here are my comments re: Father Spec. Please let me know if you think I made a tabulation error during my review:
 • Did you use less than the 27 point buy that was offered? With your bumps from race and the feat, it appears you may have used less than 27 points. If this was an intentional choice, no problem. If you think I have miscalculated, let me know how you spent points.
 • The custom background: Detective works for me. I'll open up similar options to the rest of the players (see above).
 • Let me know how you arrived at Initiative +3. I calculate Initiative +2 [+2 from Dexterity, and I don't see anything that adds an additional +1].
 • Since I gave everyone max starting gold, please use max gold only for equipment and do not include the equipment included in the Background.
That's it. Everything else looks good, thank you for taking the time to be thorough. Please post Father Spec in the RG. Keep an eye on the IC for his introduction in short order.

Cool -- thanks for the feedback.

1. I think there's all 27 there: 10, 13*, 10, 15*, 15*, 8, with bumps (*) as marked = 2+5+2+9+9+0=27.
2. good. I love that custom backgrounds are hardwired into the PHB.
3. My bad -- you are right, should be +2.
4. I'll fix equipment. Thanks.
