D&D 5E 5e Halcyon Academy

The Academy/Outside Jacques
When Raven showed, Quentin’s attention went to the older student, and Asherah faded to the background.

OOC:
Don't give up! If Raven didn't show you had Quentin all to yourself :)

Quentin dressed for battle, cleaned up as if he went with The Captain to negotiate House Contract. In some ways, this was the same, if they negotiated poorly, they would risk more and get less reward. Who knows why bunch of newcomers gets a task that older students or professors couldn't solve in half the time without effort. It must be a test. But here, tests are serious (deadly) business and Quentin intends to treat it as full-time job. No dead companions this time!

Zivar Gnome Wizard

Sitting anxiously, looking up from his book to the door much more often than he should. Zivar smiles and sets his book down as Quentin enters the main room of Jacques. Obviously thankful that he wasn't the only one to show up for the meeting.

"Good morning."

Dariana dressed for combat, her hair braided back, and packed a backpack for travel if necessary. She strode confidently into Jacques and greeted her companions.

Grody slipped in behind Dariana and pulled up his usual stool. He nodded at the others and then held up one clawed hand and cupped it as he practised one of his spells. Electricity began to spark between the tips of his claws for a few moments before stopping. After a few more moments, he cast the spell again.

Squirrels are evil!

Zivar Gnome Wizard

Smiling to his friends. "I hope you are all well this morning, personally I didn't sleep well. I couldn't stop my mind from playing over this meeting

Zivar sips his warmed cider and stows his book back in a pack.

"I wonder how long the headmaster will keep us waiting? Could be that he's busy with something else but I can't help but remember my father making people he was doing business with wait for him, he always said it gave him a bit of an upper hand in negotiations."

"Or he stands invisible right next to you and waits to see how we handle waiting." smiles Quentin as he orders his drink.
"I for one have no intention of being nervous, we can skip training day esp. after yesterday events. We did well as a team and we are recognized as a group, not ONLY as individuals. But even so, we're all formidable individuals, each in our own right. Asherah stood against the horde. Grody stood against the big zombie. Arrows flew and slew. Spells burned and protected. We are a team and proud of it!"

Over the course of several drinks, Quentin tried to inspire his friends to fight together to stand proud in face of adversity and in general unify them against opposition.

OOC:
In other words, he was Inspiring Leader and each of you gets 3 temp hit points until further notice :)

When Quentin's speech was over, everyone felt uplifted and ready to tackle anything. They cheered, and all eight of them lifted their glasses together.

It took a moment for them to realize the group only consisted of seven.

The Headmaster sat in between Quentin and Zivar, cheering along with the rest of them.

"Wonderful speech, and only wrong on one count," he said, taking a gulp of his ale. "One doesn't need to stand to be invisible."

"Thank you all for coming. It truly means a lot that you are willing to help an old Headmaster with his problems. Most students are more focussed on their own studies than they are on actually using their newfound abilities for the greater good, as shown by the fact that few jumped in to help when the Necromancer lost control of his minions.

"Every so often, I choose a small group of students who have more potential than the rest. This group does certain...favors for me. Investigations, usually. There are places in the world that sometimes have a need, and I can't simply stand by and refuse them help.

"If you choose to help me, you will become my personal retainers. You will be exposed to real world application of what you are learning. It is my experience that those who go out into the world, as opposed to simply studying in the Academy, typically learn much more, and rise above their peers.

"This year, and I predict in the coming years, I will have a number of problems that need to be addressed. Because of this, I am actually creating two groups. You will be one. The other is made up of friends of yours, I believe. Jorrick the Goliath, Mezzra the Drow, Korlin the Half Elf, as well as my granddaughter, Raven. They are joined by a few others you possibly have not met. You may work with them from time to time, but likely you will be put on separate missions. They have dubbed themselves "Raven's Claw". My granddaughter is anything but humble.

"You may also name yourselves, if you wish. You may ask me any questions you need, but I will require an answer from each of you by nightfall."

He sits back, finishing his ale, ordering another, and waits for their reply.
