D&D 5E 5e Hobgoblin stat block

ThirdWizard thanks for running the test. Not too surprising result. The hobgobling tactics were smart, and the PC's a bit shabbier, the spell selection was maybe a bit off. Something like Burning Hands which does damage to multiple targets might have done better.

Anyway, I think it's pretty clear that an encounter with 4 Hobgoblins at level 1 has a very high risk of death.

Yeah, these are PCs I threw together a earlier this week, and I just threw them into this encounter.

"Optimizing" for this encounter, for example:

 • Protection Fighter would mean hobgoblins would have a really hard time taking out the cleric and rogue
 • The Fighter could have then fought defensively, ensuring disadvantage on all hob attacks
 • The wizard with charm person instead of magic missile could have played havoc with the hobgoblin tactics
 • The rogue disengaging and using ranged weapons would have probably been better

Probably more stuff. However, I wanted to kind of emulate more a random encounter than a fully prepared party going after hobgoblins.
