D&D 5E 5e is Fun to play, as a player

I play as much as I DM. I'm grateful to have DMs who are as good at running as they are at playing in my games because that's really key to a successful game experience.

I was a player only in 4e and DM only in 5e, so its kinda hard to do a comparison. For the few games I actually played as a PC, I think I prefer 5e. 4e wins hands down when its time to do heroic stuff turn after turn, but 5e allows me to play my favorite type of character: no resource management classes. I get to play maybe once every 5 months, so during that session, I appreciate to be able to use my features an unlimited time (short rest are a good compromise, I dont mind them too much)! :P Rogues, Fighter, Warlock and Monks fit my playstyle perfectly in 5e.

I only wish there was more mundane option without spells:
Trapmaster, poisoner, scholar, delver, duelist, warlord, pavise-crossbowman, thrown-weapon master, skirmisher, whatever!

did dm a rloft campaign so far and have an ongoing ghk campaign. Play in a fr campaign. As a dm : Love it, especially at low levels. As a player : love it.
i like the simplicity tailored for PnP. I love the advantage / disadvantage system. As a player i hate exhaustion, not as a mechanic per se, but how hard it ia to get rid of it, unless you got a real high con score or prof in con save.
it is easy to convert stuff from other editions, the most headache so far i did have when creating meaningful solo bosses and converting over the top magic shenanigans, but i learned on how to do it.
Things to be most aware of as a dm are high ac players and mobs, and stating mobs like players, both add another quality to the difficulty

It's pay what you want, and pretty good quality....

They also have Divine and Arcane Powers...

I am finally getting to play since 3.5... I DM'd most of 3/3.5 but did get to play fairly regularly. I DM'd all of 4th edition and had DM'd all of 5th edition up until now. OF COURSE, it would now be on hiatus for COVID19...

My current character is a Fallen Aasimar level 6 Hexblade/level 3 Shadow Sorcerer. He had been a prisoner in the Shadowfell his whole life until his escape in the adventure and has absolutely no concept of social skills whatsoever. He is a blast to play and I can't wait for quarantine to be over so we can get back to playing.

Of course I plan on going back to DM'ing (I do enjoy it, don't get me wrong) and have the Legendary Planet Adventure Path from Kickstarter and Odyssey of the Dragonlords AND I am converting the Desert of Desolation adventure path from 2E to 5th to run. Dammit I need me some simulacrums to run all this!!!

So until a few months ago, I had only been a DM for 5e, not a player.

The game is fun to be a player in.

I did not always feel that way in 1e and 3e. Sometimes, being a player was quite UNFUN, in either of those games.
4e was always a blast...(it had to be, beyond blasting, impeding, or sliding things, the Wizard didn’t do much else 😄)

So, who here recently got to jump over to the player side of the DM screen?
What would you rank 5e as player, enjoyment wise?
Ah, come on! The wizard could summon stuff, create barriers, apply negative conditions, create catch-22s, all kinds of fun stuff!
