D&D 5E 5E Player's Handbook owners: What's the current condition of your book's binding?

What condition is your 5E Player's Handbook in?

  • I DO NOT own a 5E Player's Handbook, but my friend has one and it's beginning to fall apart.

Not only is my book holding up great, I even made a PDF of it (for my personal use, don't PM me about it, I won't respond) which entailed scanning every two-page spread on our enterprise MFP at work. I have literally pressed the book flat to a pane of glass on every page. There are 5 more PHBs at my table owned by the players, and they are all in great shape, too.

Mine, from Amazon, is fine, as are the other two PHBs that are in use in my group (as of our last game). I'll ask on Sunday, but no one has said anything about book issues.

The other books in my group are fine.

I doubt the failure rate is as high as 10% (online poll bias, etc.), but even at 5% would be pretty bad. That's unfortunate.

Agreed. I'd be much more likely to reply to a thread about the condition of my book if it was bad, than the reality, that my book (and every book I've seen) is in great condition.

ive had two PHB. the first one had sections detach completely, so returned it to store. later, the store told us they could not get vendor credit for the broken one, so if the second book detached, we'd have to go through WOTC. well, the second one is also failing, so i contacted WOTC. they wrote back and said they would replace it. we just needed the receipt and a letter detailing the problem, and the faulty merch.

None of the options quite fit. My first copy had pages wanting to come out. I sent it in to be replaced, and the copy they sent me now has a clump of about 20 pages glued together at the edge, a torn page a couple before that, and the corner came turned down and glued to the picture on 169 (one of my favorite pictures).

I would have just grin and borne the torn page, or maybe tried to separate the glue, but the marred picture plus the others together is just too much.

I've been doing a lot of referencing and making up characters, and I've got half a dozen completely separated chunks, totaling about a hundred pages.

My first copy started falling apart after 3 weeks. Large sections in the spells detached.
I was able to return it and get a new copy. The new copy seems fine so far.

My three month old book just started falling apart. 60 pages loose so far. I don't have my receipt and I don't know if the store will take the book back.
