If I can throw out an idea tglassy and Quickleaf : what if Harun had taken the identity of a new recruit to the guard and had been placed under Husam's watch for the last week or so for training. Whatever the character or motivation of the Sheikh actually is, Husam believes that he is a man of the utmost goodness and mercy. All of Harun's questioning would have just gotten that perspective. Husam is incredibly loyal to the Sheikh. I also imagine that Husam would be horrific to train under since he had been trained for this role from birth. He would be very exacting and demanding. He would probably never let Harun out of his sight so Harun would never have had any real opportunities to check the harem or investigate the Sheikh's quarters. It would be special forces training where they try and weed out the folks who can't handle it. Sleep deprivation, constant training, and borderline abuse to make sure you're made of the proper stuff to serve the Sheikh. If you went this route, I would imagine that Harun would be sore, tired, and ready to drop the act to get away from Husam. Just an idea.

I don't know, he did live out in the desert for much of his formative years. And Husam would be the exact kind of person Harun would pull pranks on.

In fact, I kind of like that. Harun begins secretly pulling pranks on Husam, always able to get away with it and make Husam's life miserable. As much as Harun would want to end the charade, Husam would want him gone, as well. Perhaps Husam suspects Harun, but can never prove anything.

tglassy I managed to figure out what you'd find in the Sheikh's quarters.

Also, you have a +1 language you haven't decided on. What will it be?

EDIT: Also, you play an instrument - which one?

What are my options

Well, all languages in the PHB.

Then there's the Zakharan languages...

Midani (Common)
Akotan – language of slave-trading Akota to the west
Aquan / Auran / Ignan / Terran / Jannti (which are mostly mutually intelligible dialects of Primordial)
Imaskari – language of the Endless Wastes / Hordelands
Shang Chou – language of Kara-Tur
Thorass – language of the Sword Coast / mainstream Forgotten Realms, the "common" tongue of pseudo-medieval European D&D
Yikari – language of the yakfolk

Then there's the lost languages...

Affa – used on Isle of the Elephant
Burnt Tongue – once used by "burnt elves" of Pearl Cities
Chun – once used in Haunted Lands
Kadari – once used in Ruined Kingdoms
Noga – once used in Ruined Kingdoms

EDIT: Don't have a list of Arabian musical instruments handy. You'll need to do some research on your own.

Also Matthan you selected "one with the universe" as the Hermit background Discovery benefit. Did you have any idea what that means in actual play? Or is it just evocative mystical flavor you don't anticipate any actual benefit from?

EDIT: And I noticed your background in the Rogues' Gallery lacks a lot of the details we discussed connecting Lal to the setting. Could you please include those for my convenience? Thank you. I like being able to tie events/quests/NPCs into your PCs, and having all that info in one place makes that possible for me to do.

Yes, thanks mate :)

EDIT: Actually, my question for you Matthan was about Husam's facial tattoos. At least your picture of him depicts him with such. Did you imagine him as being a mamluk (slave-warrior), whom facial tattoos are usually associated with? Or do they have some other significance that you were imagining? If you do intend for Husam to be a mamluk, did you have a mamluk society in mind already?
