Real plate mail distributes weight across the body and lets you do things like somersault, tumble, jump onto horse back without assistance or rock climb.


Jousting armor is a completely different thing.
Jousting armour was designed for a sport, in which it wasn't intended to actually get killed. It certainly happened, but Jousting armour should be seen more like american football padding, or something a stunt-man might wear to survive a dangerous stunt.

While ALL armour was obviously created to protect the wearer, Jousting armour takes that to another level than combat armour built to fight a war. You don't need to be able to move. You need to not get yourself killed.

(Obviously accidents still happened and people died doing jousting, but that was never the intention of the sport).
