The list here is in the same confounding order that it was written in the Player's Handbook. The deities are sorted by Alignment, of all things: Good at the top, and Evil at the bottom. I have no idea why they did that. Maybe alignment is really super important in Dragonlance?

Not only is there a good-neutral-evil ordering, but then they put the ‘top’ god at the top of each alignment subset, and then the moon gods at the end of each alignment subset.

Then all the rest in each alignment set is in alphabetical order between the top god and the moon god.

Did this list get assigned to the same editor who organized the DMG?

Having been around since the 1E days, I am fairly certain that the order given for the deities in the 5E DMG is the same order they were presented in 1E, and that basically the list has been frozen in this order as an artifact of how Dragonlance is supposed to be (3 houses of 7 for 21 deities, with symmetry between Good - Neutral - Evil).

Cheers :)
