I think people should base their votes on any reason they like. Doesn't have to be mechanically-based. Doesn't have to be flavor-based; I think some of the least flavorful subclasses have won. I also think that homebrew reworks aren't a reason to vote down anything. I also like a Sorcerer tweak, and there is absolutely no problem with Sorcerers as a class; I just like the tweak better.
I guess I just see it as running afoul of the rule against third-party subclasses: "Only the subclasses written by Wizards of the Coast qualify. No third-party entries!"
If homebrew fixes that essentially completely rewrite the subclass—all that remains is the
name and the overall concept of "Monk who uses elements"—count as "official" stuff, then...well, why doesn't my cool shiny homebrew count? We aren't using anything from WotC except the
idea.
