That makes sense. I've seen exactly 0 of them used since 1e, and even then I only saw it once or twice. I've been scratching my head over how well it's doing.

Why do people like the halberd so much?

It was a great rank-and-file weapon in its time and also quite good for the single combatant. It is also given favourable mechanics in 5e with reach and polearrm master availability.
But other weapons had other strengths.
