A demonstration magical skill is to take place later that day or week. Mage 1 is collecting the necessary spell components for his/her part of the demonstration. Unbeknownst to Mage 1, Mage 2, a rival for a low level government post, has scooped up all the available forms of the component in the city. The party can run into Mage 2 buying the components in one random encounter and then run into Mage 1 later (What do you mean your out of petrified bat guanno?). Mage 2 could also be using low level minions to create the shortage, minions the party could track down and smack down.

The party creates a friend, Mage 1, and enemy, Mage 2, and gets a view of local magocracy politic.

Ok, this may not be large scale but the pc's will hate it. Have the cat run into a pen with live stock, any kind will do, and have it just sit in an open area, so as to lure the PC's in after it. When they get into the pen have the Bull/alpha male get poed. Then the whole herd flips out, the cat gets out of dodge, and mayhem ensues.

that's actually a variation on one I was thinking of.

Earlier in the week I went looking for sound effects. This is something new we are going to try in our campaign, having various soundeffects. I found a whole bunch of chicken sound effects, so I figured why not, I could have them chase the cat into a hen house.

I guess I'll use which ever seems the most appropreated either way, they can have a run in with a farmer, and maybe the watch, depending on how things go.

sounds good, and it can tie into Allesan's father as well.

Here we go :

They can't catch the cat because the cat be caught? After some hassle of chasing the thing, they find the cat caught by Shena, the 9 year old girl. She is a sweetie too and lives near the fish place were the cat gets food sometimes. Having formed a connecting (and the cat knowing she has food) the cat goes along with the girl. Now you have a 9 year old girl and very over protective father that wants her little girl to be happy. Steal the cat? well you better not let that little girl see. While she isn't popular or anything, everyong runs to the aid of a screaming child, and is likly to take her side if anyone asks. Take it when she isn't looking? May not solve the problem when they are walkign down the street and they here "Daddy!! MY KITTY!" All in all no matter what they do to get that cat back they have to do some fancy foot rp work to get it away from the little girl. That way they don't get to just make a check they kinda have to think a bit too....I dunno

I like, it seems a good way to finish the adventure - cat isn't going anywhere, but how do you get him to come with you?
