D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I guess this is related to me previous question in a way, why do you want someone to make a game you aren't interested in playing?
I'm lost as to the logic, do you want them to make something for you to complain about?
No. I want them to make a different, incompatible game that caters to their current customer's desires, so I no longer feel compelled to complain about it.

I though we were discussing imaginary wishes? That's my wish for the official game.

Again, you just need dials. Tell the users how to get the most out of the product for them.
Yeah I have to admit I'm a little surprised that 2024, instead of introducing more optionality and optional rules and dials and so on to D&D basically totally removed that aspect, and just hastily skips through how to build stuff.

I'd hope a 6E did not do that, but instead made any dials more obvious and easier to use and communicate about.

To show the flexibility of the system in telling much more deliberate stories with curated content instead of a grab bag of options that make less sense.

"I have an idea for a LotR like setting."
"Cool, I'll play a half vampire half Goo person."
"...."

The idea that every D&D world must have every option available is why people dislike D&D for other flavors of fantasy. But you could absolutely use D&D for something with a highly curated class and race list.
Again, I'm not asking why DMs would want highly curated, hyper specific settings work limited species, classes and monster, I'm saying WOTC has no reason to nurture that because limited options don't sell splat books. They may give some lip service to DMs customizing their world, but they are never going to outright tell players/DMs "this doesn't exist/isn't playable".

And yet... I think 80-90% of groups wouldn't even notice a problem.
that is fine, they can knock themselves out, doesn’t change that I have zero interest

It’s not the attrition, I already said they can switch to something else even in my proposal, it’s that it is superhero wuxia

Yep, nor should they. I think that should be the domain of the DM to customize the game for their table.

It does, however, magically become a much more popular game if it's called Dungeons and Dragons, which immediately expands the potential player pool for said heartbreaker.
Unfortunately true. The hobby would IMO be so much better off if it wasn't utterly dominated by the very squishy uber-game called Dungeons & Dragons.
