D&D General 6E But A + Thread

If it isn't used, but takes up space on a sheet, that's bad, imo. The less clutter for things that aren't used, the better. I'm not trying to convince anyone, btw. This thread asks what we want......I want simple, yet interesting (Nimble is very close).

You still are not answering my question though. How do you randomly generate your ability scores in a fashion that works if you are using just a -2/-1/0/+1/+2/+3 system? How do the other game systems you mention do it?

I am not saying I am against this, just that I don't see how you can implement it effectively without something else underpinning those modifiers.

Most of them have arrays. I don't know if any of them do random with just mods.

All of which is true, correct, and fine.

A swing of a sword should never cut a galleon in half...from range.
There is lot of fiction where that is true though. Heck, in the Record of the Lodoss War the fighter can do it with a broom!

Now, is that D&D? Not low levels, but you get high enough why not!

We just disagree. I'm ok with that. Nimble? Solos act after every player.....and it is great. DH? Just use Fear after ever player (or whatever, go when you want)......
As a player I don’t like a solo who can act after every PC. We tried that once and it just took me out of the fiction. Maybe it can be done right, but I don’t think it works for every monster.

But getting rid of ability scores in favor of just modifiers is too big of a change?
Yes, in that it halves the potential granularity. Better to find a way to make odd numbered stats mean something - roll-under in 2e was good this way - or stagger the bonuses/penalties on a U-curve rather than have them linear at every two stat pips.
