D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Maybe someone has addressed this already, but next time you use the term sacred cow consider an alternative, like dead dude on lumber, and consider if someone might find it offensive. If you do, that's fine, feel free to offend everyone's religion, but don't act like the one you're familiar with is better than the one you aren't.

I applaud 5.24E as I think it’s good enough and I’m tired of the hard breaks in D&D.

I'm OK with no more hard breaks, but I think 5.5 just missed on quite a bit and didnt really FIX anything while it made some things worse. There is a way I think, to really unify things within a single rule set, that 5.5 just didnt do, and very much keep the soul of what makes D&D, D&D.

I’m for sure in the camp that would take a stab at it without a hard reset. I think the idea of the “soul” of D&D is going to have 10,000 different feels.

Thats the trick, getting it done in 1 rule set/outline. I think it could totally be done though.

Ignoring 4e of course.

(Sorry, not sorry!)

I think you could still get the essence of 4E without drastically changing the framework. 5E basically plays like 4E with all the tactical guts stripped out as it is, so what you'd need to do is sew them back in without all the 3E cruft and with a presentation that doesn't put people off.

Edit: This metaphor kind of got gruesome didn't it?

My perception of 4e, is that the tactical guts are better served in a different game, like draw steel.

Right or wrong I don't know.

I’d prefer a 4E add on instead of emergency surgery to insert it into the body myself. I also dearly miss the 3E cruft (assuming you don’t mean the math).

Well, primarily the endless modifiers and determining whether they stack or not. It's something I do not miss from 4E despite my nostalgia.
