A&A Europe 1940

The new A&A game is out and just arrived in the mail to me not five minutes ago. This game focuses on Europe but can be combined with A&A Pacific 1940 (which I have) for one huge game of A&A. The board is nice and big and so far I'm pretty impressed by it.

The game looks pretty solid. THere is a lot of historical reasons for the set up and that is kind of explained. Not being a history major or a WW2 buff it all sounds good to me. The combined game is huge and can be played with up to 6 players with a total of 8 countries (though technically England is 2 as it has India and England and they are seperate). I like the idea of neutral countries and how that all works. So far I'm liking the game though it does have similiar initial negatives that Pacific 1940 has like no money included and it seems not enough of all the pieces for every strategy.

Yeah, there has been a small feast of Honey Spiced Spam today. :p

I sometimes miss the classic A&A, but the new ones have not been at all bad. :)

I can't wait until I get the Pacific and Europe games, and make my friends play one giant game of A&A!!!

Either can we. First I do want to get people together just to play Europe 1940 by itself and see how it plays. America looks a lot more isolated then in previous games as there are more Atlantic spaces. It will be interesting to see how differently the game plays because of that.

I don't know if I miss the old game. The new ones have really improved upon the basic premise with better rules, better board lay out, more options, and just general better over all playability. I really enjoy the variety of the new games and the different ways they play.

The original is not so good anymore, and the revised was okay, but I felt the anniversary edition was not much fun. I don't find there are a lot of ways to do things differently. And too much time between turns. And too much reliance on dice. Otherwise, it's okay, I guess. :)

Maybe my A&A lovin' buddy will pick this up so I can try it.

It is a dice reliant game so that's just the way it has always been. Good strategy does not always win out though it does help. The Anniversary edition we have found to offer a good amount of different strategies depending on what people do.

But for something different there are other smaller A&A games that play very differently like D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, and Guadalcanal.

Got to play for the first time tonight. It was funny when one of the guys decided to look on line to see if there was clarifications or other items to help us. He came back in five minutes later saying "You know the game doesn't come out for another 5 days? THere was nothing on line useful." So, that's always cool.

The game really plays differently. I was surpsed by how a few changes makes a big difference. I played Italy/Germany. After my first turn with Germany I knew I should have bought more boats and pushed towards England faster. I failed to grab that before America nad Russia were able to enter the game(they both start out not at war with the Axis for the first few turns).

I lost the game becasue of bad mistakes being the first time we'd played, and some bad rule.s We played through 10 rounds in about 7 hours. That was long becasue no one knew what they were doing and ththose early rounds took forever. Italy and America spent many rounds fighting of gibraltar becasue all of a sudden it becasme really important in this game. One needs to control it to go into the Med with anything but subs. And it has a Naval base and Air Base making it stragically important.

It was a lot of fun and hopefully we can get a good group together to play more.
