A Clash of Earth and Sea (El Jefe Judging) [See Part II]

ooc: Velmont's got a good point. Trying to press on with one dead would have been tough, but with two dead I shudder to think. You're probably better off letting the dungeon restock a bit rather than attempting to take on the head honcho with two (well, four really) PCs missing. Besides, being dead isn't any fun... let's get Velmont and Xael back in the game.

ic: With considerable effort, you manage to haul Opale and Ducane up to the top of the chimney. Sara and Zack are, naturally, quite upset. Sara is especially allarmed to hear how close Iggy came to being dead as well.

Charlarn of Phyrah: male human cleric 4/ranger 2

Charlarn's enthusiasm for this fight is at a low after the deaths of two of his companions. He doesn't talk much as you bring the bodies out of the chimney. The cleric can't even look at Zack as Ducane's body comes up. He says in a whisper. "I'm sorry."

OOC: I've submitted Charlarn for approval to 6th level. I had a tough time coming up with a feat for him. :) Once he gets his rest, and gains his new level he'll prepare the following spells.

Cleric Spells Prepared (5/4+1/3+1: save DC 13 + level):
0-detect magic, guidance, light, light, mending;
1-bless, protection from evil, sanctuary*, shield of faith, summon monster I;
2-enthrall, shield other*, silence, spiritual weapon.
*Domain spell.

Before ascending the rope, Planus uses his final major spell to heal Iggy back to consciousness. cure light (1d8+3=8)

He is incredibly dejected, sitting off by himself after they find a place to rest. He can be heard talking to himself, "It's my fault. Opale wouldn't have even been here if it wasn't for me." He looks at Zack and says, "He was incredibly brave charging a huge merrow, 15 feet tall at least. He fought him off too and would have been fine but for that damn, treacherous wizard."

OOC: I need to update Planus to 4th level. I'll try to do that tonight.

"Opale died too?!" asks Iggy incredulously. "Oh, this is dangerous work. We've got to get them raised, and the Merfolk are our only hope."

Before climbing back up the chimney, Iggy insists that the group try to get the ears off the two dead merrow down the hall. He'll first use his clairvoyance spell to make sure the room is empty. If it is, he'll hustle down there and do the dirty work.

Once on the surface, he'll cut the ears off the three dead merrow there. He'll ask Jack to cut the head off the dead Sorcerer, unable to bring himself to do it.

"You see, the merfolk know who the three wizards are. They know their names. So if we can show them a dead body, and these ears, they'll know we are making progress at clearing their lake. It should put us in their good graces, and they may have the magic to raise our friends. I think that is where we should go next."

If the others agree, strike a charge off the wand of water breathing and we'll move into the water. You've had enough experience with this to be pretty sure you will attract more of the shark like corrupted fish with the amount of gore on and about you.

OoC: I should be finally back for good. Sorry for deserting, especially without proper notice.

IC: Zack is mortified when the dead body of his younger brother is brought back.
"I knew I shouldn't have let you go off without me... I knew it..."

After a while he recovers and the stoic look more common to him returns to his face as he takes upon himself to carry Ducane's body as they make their way to the waterfront.

Jack keeps to himself as he hacks off the dead wizard's head.*

DC 15 Listen check:

[sblock]Jack's continuously muttering and grumbling while he works. You can catch the occassional snippets concerning butchers, undertakers, taxidermists, the relative merits of their ancentries, speculations on their rates of income, and something about Iggy's personal debts.[/sblock]

OOC: *Fortunately, Jack's new Human Bane Shortsword will make quick work of that wizard's neck. :p

The party manages to make its way back to the compound, and exchanges news with their friends there. They are saddened to hear of your loss. You are able to rest safely and recover spells.

Many of you are still wounded... do you want to do any more healing before journeying on? If so and that brings the clerics low on spells, do you want to rest for another day or continue low on spells? Finally, do you have any plans to try and avoid the sharks, or are you simply going to be prepared to fight them when they are attracted to the various dead bodies and severed body parts in your posession?
