A Clash of Earth and Sea (El Jefe Judging) [See Part II]

OOC: Spellcraft: 9+14=23

IC: "Oh, right. We only need a tiny part of their body for the spell. And I think we're up for the trip without a second night of resting. Let's all go except Sara. She can guard the village. We'll take a lock of Opale's and Ducane's hair and set off. I'll use the wand."

And it would later be determined that those words saved the inhabitants of the compound from a violent end....[/sblock]

The hand of plot pushes things forward:

Having figured out a way to avoid taking the bodies, the group soon figures out some other precautions. Cleaning up as best you can, you think you've got all the blood and gore out of your equipment. The various Ogre bits are carefully wrapped up and stowed in the haversack so as to attract no attention. Locks of hair are taken from Ducane and Opale, also to be stored carefully in a seperate pocket of the haversack. (You establish that things can be removed from the haversack under water without flooding it, by the way....)

Iggy uses a charge of the wand, and you once more visit your Merfolk employers. While you find them still disgruntled after the big fight, your relationship seems restored by the evidence of your elimination of most of their Merfolk enemies.

They remind you that the Merrow are lead by a particularly fierce Merrow with dangerous arcane powers, and stress that he is much more dangerous than even the mightiest of his minions.

Sadly, the merfolk have no one capable of raising the dead in any way. However, they hold out some hope:

"We feared after the battle ended so poorly that we might need to abandon our homes and flee the Merrow. We have been working on reactivating a gateway to the ocean that was built many generations ago. We will not not need it now, with the good news you have brought, but the power channelled into it should be sufficient to keep a gate to our motherland open for a full day. We have heard that our brethren there have among them a powerfull servant of the waves that can indeed return the dead to life, if the apropriate sacrifices can be made. Do you want to travel there?"

Forgot to respond to the longspear request:

The folks at the compound don't have a longspear to lend you, but they do have the tools to trim a Merrow longspear down to size so it fits a medium sized creature. If you would like, you did that before leaving.

Iggy bows respectfully. "We would indeed wish to travel there, as raising our friends is our most important wish. We must help each other, especially if we are to succeed in this task. Unfortunately, I don't know that we have sufficient resources to pay your colleagues for the service. Could you perhaps advance a portion of the reward?"

"Also, did you ever find the body of the wizard who was killed in the underwater battle? I would like to know that he is dead."

Charlarn of Phyrah: male human cleric 4/ranger 2

Charlarn says to the mermen, "I'm glad that you won't have to leave your homes. I know the life of the road isn't for everyone. We'd like very much to use your portal. Our friends left this world much too early."

Zack nods in agreement to Charlarn's comment.
"Can this be used for the sacrifice?" he then asks, pointing at the magical greatsword on his back.

"Your payment was sent to Orussus with the request for aid, and is held in trust by the one known as Joe."

"The sacrifices to open the gate have allready been made, though I thank you for your offer. Only by going through the gate could you learn what will be necessary to restore your friends."

OOC: Planus will take them up on the longspear offer.

I'm going to be out of town 9/16 to 9/24. Planus will act like Planus. In combat he will mostly fire his bow, or use his new longspear if they are underwater or he can't avoid shooting through cover into melee. He will try to cast silence and then spiritual weapon on the enemy spellcasters if we happen to get to the big battle before I'm back. I'm still updating Planus for level 4 and will hopefully have him emailed for approval this evening. As I understand it, Planus can continue adventuring while approval is pending.

"Then we shall take you to the gate while your water magic is still strong."

The merfolk help you to swim rapidly to the bottom of the lake, where a strange sight awaits you. Strands of coral -- found nowhere else in the lake -- seem to have grown into the shape of a large gazebo. Swimming into the center of it, you feel a lurch in your stomaches and a bright flash of light. Suddenly, you are elsewhere...

You are in shallow water, as you can tell by the bright sunlight shining all around you. Coral, so odd in the lake, is all about you.
