A Clash of Earth and Sea (El Jefe Judging) [See Part II]

The Eldest of the merfolk takes from you the tokens of Ducane and Opale and retreats to perform lengthy rituals. In the meantime, an old Merman, by his bearing a great warrior in his youth, swims up to you.

"I am Thrain, bearer of Goruksblain and champion of my people. It will be good to lay the hammer down. Look it over, but be cautious. I doubt you have before seen a weapon of such power, or an artifact of such will. It will only bear the touch of the pure of heart."

Charlarn of Phyrah: male human cleric 4/ranger 2

Charlarn bows, "Greetings Thrain. I am Charlarn of Phyrah. These are my friends, Ignatious, Jack, Planus of Mongrel, and Zack. I'd like to know more about you and..." Charlarn stumbles over the unfamiliar word, "Goruksblain. Does the hammer have a goal different than your people's? Why would a good weapon do such a thing?"

"The hammer was crafter to destroy the most potent chieftains of the undead, great wizards who have locked away their souls, binding themselves to evil in pursuit of immortality. My people are fortunate in that few of these make a home in mother ocean. It's power is such that it is of great use against those undead that do trouble us, but the hammer itself finds the distance to its true foe distressing."

"Are there any among you willing to shoulder the burden of Goruksblain?"

"Far too close for comfort, I fear. If need be, we can reopen the gate, though better if that is not needed. Look there, in the distance... do you see that island? That is the pirates' base. If you can drive them away from there, that will greatly disrupt their activities in this region."

Charlarn looks at Thrain. "I will gladly wield Goruksblain. I have some skill in arms and fear the undead. That caution should help temper the hammer's will. But first the pirates. Are they land dwellers like us?"

"I think if we're taking your valuable weapon, we owe it to you to strike at your enemies before we go. How shall we get over there? Swim, I guess."

OOC: Iggy's wand is now at 3 charges. If he uses one to get to the pirates, one to get back, and then one more to get back to the village, there you go. Hopefully he'll be at 6th level by then. He'd want a go at the chimney anyway before trying the water entrance again.

In response to Iggy:

"We occasionally sink the pirates small craft, when we get the chance. Some of our warriors are at work right now to raise a raft to the surface for your use."

In response to Charlarn:

"Then place your hand on the hammer, so that it might know and accept you, sealing your pact."

He hold out the head of the warhammer.

"We would prefer the raft to another underwater sojourn. We are simply not aquatic creatures, unfortunately. Thank you for thinking of that & working on the raft." says igg.

Charlarn reaches for the handle and grabs the warhammer. "Just like this? How will I know if it accepts me?"
