A Clash of Earth and Sea (El Jefe Judging) [See Part II]

Circling the lake further, you come upon a small dock extending out about 10 feet over the water. On the shore near the dock, a canoe is up on wooden blocks, covered by a tarp. It looks like it has been carefully stowed, though you see no sign that anyone has been about recently.

Iggy is greatly relieved to hear his friend's typical chatter. If Sara were nervous , then Iggy would be too.

"This could be dangerous, but we need to check it out. Perhaps we should all approach together. Let's see if there's anything in that canoe."

(I see Manzanita is getting a bit paranoid. Must be all the experience from being in my other games... but sometimes a canoe is just a canoe.) :)

Inspecting the area, nothing seems to be out of place or unusual. The canoe isn't very large, it looks like it could hold two medium sized humanoids and some minimal gear. The dock appears large enough to provide a convenient launching or landing point for use of the boat, and isn't any larger than it would need to be for that purpose.

Iggy paces around the boat and the dock.

"I think this may be the way to contact the mermen. It does not appear to be used as a fishing boat. Someone set it up here, but I don't see why a person would have. Hmmm"

Iggy gets the brother's Grim to help him turn the boat over. He wants to see if it has any patern on the bottom.

"Is anyone up for a little ride on the lake?"

Charlarn says, "I don't have any experience with canoes, but I'll give it a try." If he goes out, Charlarn will leave his pack and armor on land.

"You know, I really don't think canoeing sounds a very sensible option right now with large... somethings in the water. Where are you going to canoe anyways?", Ducane says while glancing around the lake, looking for some landmarks or something. "But if you're going, then you should be ready to make a hasty comeback.", Ducane continues while readying his longbow.

"Maybe the dark shape is some sort of guardian fish for the merfolk. In that case, we have nothing to worry about."

Removing the tarp and examining the canoe, you find nothing unusual about it. It would make a servicable fishing boat, but you see nothing to refute Iggy's hunch that it hadn't been used that way recently.

(I believe it was Iggy's intention to turn the canoe from upside down to rightside up, rather than to capsize it. It's not in the water currently, and I believe he intends to float it. Iggy might wish to explain this to Zack....)
