A houserule idea for Fighter and Rogue multiclass feats

Stalker0

Legend
In general, I still think the various multiclass feats are imbalanced with each other. For example, I got to try the paladin one at this weekend. It works pretty well, as often I can have the divine challenge up most of the fight.

The same with the ranger's, I can hunter quarry for an entire encounter and get a nice benefit.

The warlord and clerics allow healing oneself, which while limited 1/day is useful bonus to have in a pinch.

The fighter and rogue's on the other hand is very very weak. You use them once, and then their gone.

So instead of 1/encounter, we change them to 1/day for the duration of an encounter.

Student of the Sword

Choose either one-handed or two-handed weapons. 1/day as a free action you gain a +1 attack bonus to this weapon for the duration of the encounter. Any creature you hit with an attack is marked, but you can only mark 1 creature per round.

Sneak of Shadows

1/day as a free action you can the sneak attack ability. The ability lasts for the duration of the encounter.

Nice! By the way, the Ranger's multiclass feat has been declared as errataed by WotC_Miko (sorry, don't have search so can't find the thread where it was mentioned, but it was within the last few days). You now only get Hunter's Quarry for one round only. Applying the same fix to it seems appropriate.

Yep, this. Pretty much all the multiclass feats are designed to grant a single, one-time use of something or other.

Wow, just....they do want us to take these feats right?

I think the problem is that the multiclass feats also come with skill training, which makes them 'strong' even if the combat power sucks. One round of Hunter's Quarry per combat is pretty lousy, though. I'd much prefer Inspiring Word. Sure, you only get one per day, but at least when it comes out, it really shouts, "HEY, I'M PART WARLORD NOW!"

So I have a question; (I believe this has been mentioned once or twice elsewhere, but I haven't seen an answer...) the Cleric and Warlord multiclass feats grant you the class healing powers 1/day. The text of the powers indicate that they can be used each encounter, but only up to twice. So does the feat grant you one use of the power once, or up to two uses of the power once, as long as they are during the same encounter?

I think there is a happy medium.

(Take that for what it's worth; besides the multiclassing rules, which are good except for the entry feat family in my opinion, and the suboptimal half-elf racial features, I've found 4E to be an absolutely top-notch design masterpiece. Great job by you and the rest of the devs/designers.)

Stalker0, check out my multiclass houserules: Alternate Multiclass Houserules, although yours are appealing to me more right now (see post #15 for why).

This.

They're neat, but they're not so freakin' awesome you'd obviously take it over a weapon focus or a class specific feat.
