A mystery race ?

Orc would be cool. Goliath could be cool. Drow might just tip me over the edge into a shrieking banshee of elf hate. (I don't really hate elves. But making 4/8 of the races in the PHB elf themed would be madness.)

I'd be fine with Drow, but I'd prefer Goblins or Kobolds.

Hmm. I remember drow being on the list of races that might get an abbreviated PC write-up in the Monster Manual, but I don't recall kobolds being on that list. And the little scaly guys are in many ways the break-out race of 3E . . .

(Or, I could be remembering wrong. It happens.)

Are we counting full blooded orcs? Warcraft has made them pretty acceptable as a PC type no?
Zug-zug.

But really, if it does turn out to be drow and 1/2 of the races in the PHB are elves, I am not going to be a happy camper.

I'd much prefer something that is distinctly non-demi-human. Goblin, kobold, animal-person. Goliath or some other Larger-than-Human would be interesting. Especially when you're dealing with goblin and kobold enemies, whose tunnels are built for small guys - the large guy is SOL.

If the new Drizzt book is any indication, my bet is on orcs. Drow aren't a race, their a subrace. If we add them into the mix we have elves, eladrin, half-elves, and drow. Way too many elves even for a treehugger like me.
