Phoenix follows, moving up to walk astride with the farmer. In a crisp business-like manner she barrages him with questions. "There is more that I would know. How often are these raids? What have people seen? Do nearby villages report the same? What evidence is left behind? What or who do they target? Is there a pattern to when they come?"

"ahh...slow down there sweetheart. Ok ... they didn't start off so much often, but for tha last coupla weeks or so they been coming nearly every night. We'll be out in a month. Evidence? Well ain't that a big fancy city-folk word. Not right sure what that means, but left behind? There been blood from the cows, no bodies, ain't no hole in tha walls and the doors are locked. As I said afore they been just takin' our cows, but we been afraid they come for us next. They seem to come at night, ain't nobody seen nothin', but the cows are all counted for when we go ta bed and gone in the morning when we feed them" Shamus replies, taking a few deep breaths to get his wind back from his speech.

"That's weird, isn't it?" says Papolstaanas. "They must be pretty strong, or there must be quite a few of them, to carry off an entire cow... But then, I guess maybe they aren't carrying it, are they, if the door stays locked?--Or do they pick the lock and then relock it? Or, maybe they're, I don't know, spiriting it though the walls somehow? But then, why would there be blood? Is there--" his voice gets a bit lower--"Is there a lot of blood? I mean, what I mean is, is there enough blood that, you know, might indicate that the cow was dismembered before being carried away--c-carried away in, ugh, in little pieces, or--or is there only a little blood, like maybe they use their evil psychic powers to spirit the cow away and the cow gets a nosebleed or something in reaction to having its brain scrambled or whatever and that's all you find the following morning?"

"Wow, you folks sure ask a lot of questions y'know. Hmmm, ain't enough blood to have cut it up, but more than a nosebleed worth too" he replies

"Well actually I had a really really bad nosebleed once and it got all over my hands and completely covered the--" Papolstaanas slows down, pauses, and then adds, "ummm... Maybe you don't want to hear about that."

Phoenix nods as she listens, then glances at the group walking beside her.

"I agree with Papolstanaas' words - well, at least his guesses at what is happening - I have little experience with nosebleeds." The slight, amused smile returns.

"My apologies friends, I am used to hunting alone. I jumped straight to business without introducing myself to everyone. I go by Phoenix. I am bound to the flame and it to me, though on occasion I share it with a select few that meet my criterion." Her eye glints and the smile fades.

"But, back to the business at hand, I am personally at a loss as to what we are dealing with. I think we'll need to investigate it in person to determine anything else."

"It's no different then any other banditry. Just a manner of execution is strange. We'll wait overnight and when they come either deal with them immediately or shadow them back to their lair." deva speaks, almost indifferently, it's already been seen at some point in his lives.
