A Paid Trip to Spellhold [D&D 4e]

Amazed to see Chizz dive overboard, Lochlan grabs one of the floats that Chizz attached to ropes earlier and throws it out to Cliff, readying himself to haul back on either that line or the one Chizz carried, depending on which is easier for Cliff to reach.

Taran and Cliff are washed away by the waves. Taran's recent transformation is hard to manage, and the harsh waves and strong currents prove too much for him. However, his new form protects him from the violent temperature drop.

Chizz lunches himself from the ship, and is able to swim and reaches for Cliff.

Asterion and Kaedyn manage to break free from the ropes without destroying Chizz's effective safeguard system.

Lochlan uses the line to pull both men towards the ship. However there's still a way to go.

Cliff and Chizz lose one HS. Taran doesn't.
Now that Chizz reached Cliff, they can try a less difficult athletic check to pull themselves towards the ship. The others can aid them from on-board with the same skill. Or they can just hold, and the others do the pulling, while they aid.
Taran will have to roll better than 2 =P

Asterion yanks at one of the ropes, trying to maneuver it into a better position for his friends to grab onto.

"Keep afloat, friends! This storm will have to try harder than that!"

Taran feels relieved to see his mate rescued and tries to swim against the wind and tide to the ship. He gets underwater where there is less turbulence and the water is quieter.

[sblock=OCC] WT... It seems I can't roll any worse. I don't like these new dice roller.[/sblock]

Chizz wraps the rope around Cliff's chest, under his arms, and pulls mightily, trying to get to the ship before the cold saps his strength. Just kick your feet, Cliff, and keep your face above water. Thrashing about only makes it worse.

(rats - I had a 27, but posted in the wrong forum).

Kaedyn's naval manoeuvre saves the sliding slaves, and helps the attempts to save the ones hanging from ropes and other things.
Chizz manage to pull the man up, but Cliff, Asterion and Lochlan lose grasp of the men they were trying to rescue. All they see is the face of terror of the falling men, before the sea claims them forever.
Taran is still struggling with the current. He starts to feel the need of taking a "holefull" of air.

You must save the falling crew! You can roll anything you want, but if you don't choose wisely, no matter how good the roll is, the guy's going down anyway!

Taran is still struggling to go up, so he can't help the sailors.

Kaedyn saves 5 sliding slaves, and grants a +2 to further saving checks. Chizz also saves 1, but the others fail.

There are still 9 slaves hanging from ropes and the like.

Sailors saved: 6
Sailors lost: 3

Dripping wet and with chattering teeth from the cold, Chizz lunges toward one of the falling sailors and grabs for his arm, but the water makes him too slippery to hold on to.
