A Question for the Ages: Wars or Trek?

Star Wars or Star Trek?

How about Trek wars?

"Mr Sulu, the emperor is after us. Engage."

"We can't take much more of this, Captain Luke"

"Kirk, I am your father"

"The Evil Empire has built an even more impressive ship. They have gone from spherical to completely square. They have gone borg on us."

"Search your feelings, Commander Data. Join us. If you won't join maybe your brothers will".

"Prosper and live long you will"

"Set your light sabers to stun"

This was a no-brainer until George Lucas pooped on my childhood.

No Kidding.

Star Wars.

Don't get me wrong, Trek isn't bad, there's the first two seasons of TOS (and a few episodes from Season 3), there's DS9, there's the good episodes from ENT, and the better stuff from TNG. But then there's a lot of silly stuff like the really bad episodes from TOS season 3, Roddenberry taking his vision of the future far too seriously in the development of TNG, Voyager, a number of bad films and so on.

The Star Wars films alone are all pretty good when viewed as a whole. Now I know someone's going to chime in here about how bad Menace (or Clones) was, but the criticism there is overblown at times, and besides, many of the problems aren't as bad when viewing it in context of the entire saga.

When you start throwing in their respective extended universes, Star Wars could have the upper hand, because none of the Trek stuff is canonical. Downside, is there's a ton of Star Wars stuff and not all of it is good, so I'll say that's a tie.

And here's my favorite YouTube take on the question:

I think I'd go with what's behind Curtain #3: Dr Who - it predates both Star Wars and Star Trek

Star Trek, for a host of reasons, one of which was I started watching Kirk, Spock and McCoy at the age of four, four years before Star Wars debuted.

For me, it's not even close.

No contest for me... Star Wars all the way. I've never been a big fan of Star Trek and the last movie only reinforced my opinion.
