I don't know about the Outback Steakhouse chain but I've been to a few BBQ restaurants in Australia where you cook the steak yourself.

I've never understood the appeal of going to a place where you cook the food yourself. Isn't the the kitchen? I go to a restaurant to have a (semi-)professional do the cooking. If I'm cooking it myself, I'm buying the meat cheaper at the supermarket in the first place and not going out to eat.

Outback (also comfort food for me) also has the cheese fries as an appetizer. French fries, melted cheese, bacon, served with spicy ranch dressing to dip it in or pour over the fries.

It's a heart attack on a plate, but it is amazingly good, in a "I'm going to die" sort of way.

I recently learned from my friend's Australian husband that Australians, as a general rule, don't like macaroni and cheese or hot dogs.

I'm American and I don't like macaroni & cheese or hot dogs :)

Well, it's not sad if you're in Japan; it's just sad for the Australians.

Still...I'm surprised that this is a conversation about Australian food and nobody has brought up the subject of Vegemite yet....
Or more importantly, Tim Tams.

Tiiimmm Tammms. Drooooollll.

I've never really liked hotdogs but I love Mac&cheese.

I don't think I've ever heard of them at Chilis... that's where baby back ribs live.

... Mmmm. Pork.
TGI Fridays has better ribs, as does just about every other place I've ever been to.

Jack Daniels Ribs though... *drools*

But the onion is nothing special, Ruby Tuesdays has one, so does Lonestar. I like Lonestar over Outback personaly.

I think they might have been pulling your leg there... I live in a town of about 13,000 people and we have a shop that just sells hot dogs and nothing else...
