A Question: Why have you never GMed?

So I am working on a project and looking for some input. This is for any TTRPG players who have NEVER been a GM.

What is stopping you?

This isn't meant as an attack or a judgement. I am looking to address "common" reasons why people who have been playing for any length of time have never taken up the baton and been a GM. Give me your reasons as best you understand them.

Thanks in advance.

I don't wish to pollute the thread, but as a brand new DM I can tell you the reason I avoided it for so long--right up until this year--was personal insecurity about whether or not I'd do a solid job. It's a lot of work and I've always known it is and I didn't want to disappoint my group.

So, there was a time when I wasn't a GM. It wasn't that anything was "stopping me." There was just no need for me to run them - there were other GMs in my social circle more than happy to run games.

I took up GMing within probably 2-3 months of starting playing. In the (rather large) university group where I started, GMing was implicitly part of being a fully participating member. New GMs' settings - there were no published settings that were much good in 1979 - tended to get stomped by experienced players, but this was very educational.
