A Review of 6E

6e YAY!

Is it true that we Greyhawk fans finally got some lovin' with this edition?

Also is it true that Tolkien Enterprises finally relented and allowed Middle-Earth to be the default setting? That stoopid lawsuit with Chris Tolkiens kids was getting anoying.

Oh. Apparently no one told you. Not only did they remove all references to Gr:):):):):):), but they are now disavowing all knowledge that Gr:):):):):):) ever even existed. The reason I'm blanking out all references to Gr:):):):):):) is that right after the 6E release, someone on the WotC boards asked about something Gr:):):):):):)-related. The company immediately sued him via WebCourt.gov, and he lost everything. I'd hate for the same thing to happen to you, Son_of_Thunder.

No. Eberron has been the default setting since 4.5, when WotC finally gave up trying to make Greyhawk fans happy, and they have no intention of changing that. My Indaria setting won the 5e setting search (I know I haven't written much since the ICS, but programming still pays a lot better than writing gaming books, sorry), and it's done pretty well at replacing the Realms as the more "classic-style" setting in Wizard's stable (remember that when Ed Greenwood retired they decided to shut down the Realms entirely, except for novels), but no matter how much I lobbied for it, the WotC wouldn't budge.

You might be intersted in learning that, concurrent with the new holo-format release of Peter Jackson's movies, WotC is releasing the Middle Earth Campaign Setting for 6e, but it's just a one-off product.

Did they do a better job when editing monster statblocks?
like the fact the dread Gazebo was missing 3 skillpoints and two of the feats listed under common housecat have been out of print for 2 editions.

and really the fact that most of the template characters have thier skill points in supercross skills calculated wrong.

See, I told everyone sixth was around the corner when 5.95E PHB 11 came out, but no one ever replies to my mindlinks.

Oh, did anyone else see that AmazeBay posted Races of Saltmarsh for a release date five years from now? I wonder what edition it's for...

Probably D&D XP, Service Pack 3. I wonder if Races of Saltmarsh will have more stuff on Net Trolls, their Sanity Drain attack is so fun to throw at players.

Personally, I'm still playing OGL Red Helmet Gamix 5, but it started diverging more from the D&D core after WotC stopped putting out new OGL SRD's with D&D 5.15a, although some companies still make neat open-source stuff like Titanium Heroes v4 Beta and MonteCookbot's Arcana Extreme.

So... did they get rid of that st00pid rule where Paladins had to keep their mounts in a ball and then throw it on the ground to summon it? (Assuming Paladins are a Base Class Again and not an Expanded Prestigious Class like in 5.25... Blech.)
