A reward from a deity?

Hi all,

My players in my Forgotten Realms campaign have just finished a long quest (close to 6 months real time) to retrieve Lathander's chosen (an NPC cleric friend of theirs) from an evil group who had kidnapped her, and then to restore the cleric to her former self (which involved a lot of planar travel and battles with all manner of nasty things, including a demilich and one of the demon princes from BOVD who had got the cleric's soul through various nerfarious schemes).

But how best to reward them?

They're all around 27-29th level, so something like a wish each would be a little underwhelming since they can cast the spell multiple times per day on their own! None of them follow Lathander themselves, although they do follow gods who are friendly/allied with him.

So any ideas for a suitable reward a deity could give?

give them acces to spell-like abilities?

Give clerics Greater turning x/day.

Give an arcanist a bonus to his fire spells.

Fighter/rogue types: don't know what

Have Lathander "owe them one". Give them a favor of Lathander, redeemable at any time.

Good for one good ass-kicking by the gods when needed the most. They'll treasure that one.

Yep, Nothin' like knowing you got a blank check from one of the big boys (or girls).

From a player stand-point, a as-yet-unnamed-favor-to-be-called-in-later is the best possible gift from any divinity. In fact, mnay players like to just build up favors from the various powerful/important people they meet, so they can call them in when they really need it.

Ahh, the classic "what do you give the adventurer who has everything" question. You know something handmade always says more than something you can buy at the store or get with a wish.

For each character, a ceramic disk about four inches in diameter with a scene of the sun rising over a pastoral scene (make each scene unique: ocean, forest, mountains, whatever best suits their background and personality). The scenes were hand painted by Lathander and have startling realism to them. The disks are unbreakable and if taken unwillingly from the recipient, will return to them whereever they are (even another plane) when the first rays of dawn light up the place of their birth.

The disks only radiate as faint magic, but the recipient (and one other with whom the recipient must be holding hands) may actually step into the scene depicted on his or her disk. Within the scene, the character finds themself in a perfectly restful place, a personal demiplane. Bridges at the edge of this space lead to the other "scenes" depicted on the other disks received by the party. A window looks out upon the location where the character first entered the scene and can be used to return to that location. Within the "scenes" of other party members, a window looks out to wherever that party member currently is and can be used to step out into that location.

Once a disk has been used to step into the demiplane, it cannot be used to enter again until it has been set out in the first light of dawn, although it is still possible for others who have entered the demiplane scenes from other disks to step out to its location.

Thanks all :)

I wound up giving them a +2 to their choice of stat, one favour to call in as they wished, one spell from one of Lathander's domain lists as a 1/day spell like, and a set of the plates that Thornir Alekeg posted.

One has already called in his favour to gain a feat he wanted so he can qualify for a PrC nex level, the others are still debating....there is talk from two of them about requesting half celestial templates, but we'll see what happens.

BTW they loved the plates, and are planning on how to 'redecorate' their new demiplanes- although I am unsure whether this will escalate the ongoing feud between the two pseudodragon familiars in the party (who will now have easier access to each other's treaure hoards  )

Thanks again,

Ellie :)

Because Lathander is the deity of youth, birth, vitality and health, I would have given them something related to that, such as a permanent Consitution increase or an immunity to diseases or poisons. However at epic levels these may turn up to be a small prize.

If the players would enjoy a reward even with no effects to adventuring, what about if the god of birth granted them many sons & daughters? But I suspect your players want something more combat-related, and Lathander wouldn't just give them sparring children... :p

Therefore I second the idea of just granting them the one-time ability to call for Lathander's avatar in case of need.

A place among the demi-gods, a keep on the planes of X, dancing girls/men...

The reward of a prophecy...your name shall be remember for 2000 years, your children and your children chrildren shall be blessed by me and protected by me...
