A Sad and Expensive Story. PC or Console Tale

Truth Seeker

Adventurer
Since I got my XBox last year June...my PC went to a tailspain of neglect. No new games, no upgraded parts. Not even no new software.

Now...the time is upon me to empower my near-forgotten lady *Hey, make no fun here:p *, and she is now getting her parts...already got two news burners on the CD and DVD side and they are fast, especially the CD side. Just got by UPS delivery, a New Thermalake Volcano 12 CPU Cooler, and a cute air duct funnel. Before the month is out. I am slapping...I mean I am graciously going to get the near extinct and still viable PNY 6800 Ultra VGC 256mb, or PNY 6800 GT 256mb, (running a poll at another site, on which to get) a powerful item, and it is most expensive. Currently installed, is a PNY 5700 128mb Ultra.

And to get back to the PC gaming...online, which I haven't done for ages...since the HALO Xbox grace my hands, I might swing for overclocking dual memory Ram, to make it complete. It will hit around 600 to 700+ dollars, by the time I am finished.

Tell me...have you gone through this crisis as well.

*Edit: Can't believe how off tangent this went...but hey...it is a story...tell the tale:D *

It’s not much of a tale... I do it every few years, I usually go away from the PC when the new consoles come out and slowly work my way back to the PC. Except for this time... My PC upgrades is on hold right now.

I nearly hit 9600 for myself... ;) (and you've been a member two months longer than me... ;) )

I don't ever think I'll be a console guy.

But I also don't have the patience and skill to manually upgrade my computer.

So I just keep buying new ones! :D

I was never a console guy until a friend got an X-Box. One word: HALO.

But the PC still rocks my world for Neverwinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic. (Yeah, you can play KotOR on the X-Box, but I like the controls much better on the PC.)

I was always a console guy. My PCs were never good enough to play the newest games, so I invested into Console, since for some reason, my computers have this habit of giving me glitches.

I've always been a console guy (because it's much easier to keep consoles ready for current games than PCs), but my current plan is to shift to PC gaming for the next year or two (I figure a 3.2 GHz P4 and a GF6600GT should be good for a while, if not cutting-edge) until MS and Sony make their first price cuts on the next-gen consoles (and to see if anyone stumbles horribly, or Nintendo does something to convince me to buy their box).

My story: I used to play PC games. but I heard the XBOX was really good. I Bought an XBOX and some games, I played Halo 2 over XBOX live. I had a real problem with the way they did matchmating for games with Halo 2. I just love classic deathmatch. But you can't filter for just deathmatch in the ranked games. So I'd be throw into king of the hill, oddball, ect..
I tryed Crinsom Skies, it was the same way, no real filters. So after a few weeks I went back to my PC games where I could play like how I wanted.
Eric, upgrading memory and putting in a card is really easy. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Consoles don't do it for me. The creative stuff is more often than not coming on the PC side, and the good console titles migrate to the PC eventually (KotoR, GTA). Plus, I can always find demos of PC games to try out on a whim. And I can play a lot of the games I like on my laptop.

So, it's a PC upgrade every two or three years. The butcher's bill is due this summer, and it's not gonna be pretty. Probably $800 or $900 by the time I'm done, more if I get a new case. My heavy steel monstrosity has served me well for 10 years, but it's getting time for a new one that runs cooler and quieter.

I had to upgrade my case and power supply to upgrade my video card. My HP had a propriity power supply. So I could not upgrade it without getting a whole new case and power supply. The upgrade was woth it though, IMO. I went from 25-40 FPS on BFV with everything on low/ medium to 120 FPS with everything on high.

My last console was a Sega Genesis. I am pretty much a computer gaming guy, but I am seriously considering the XBox360. My wife has recently lost her job, so it pretty much depends on how her situation resolves before this fall. My current computer is a Dell Dimension XPS Gen4, so I don't need to worry about upgrading that anytime soon, thankfully.
