A Sojourn in Sairundan [Judge: Manzanita]

Conuld, Transmuter 3, HP 16/16, AC 12

Conuld sends sand flying as he clambers to his feet, staff in hand. "Oh, I don't like these things. Too many legs that bend in too many places." He backs off, muttering a few arcane words. Suddenly the end of his staff bursts into light, harsh in the night. "Scorpions!" he shouts.

The scorpion responds well to Cludge. It snaps its pincers menacingly, but then it just grabs the morsel and skitters away.

Conuld's scorpions don't seem so happy. They snap and twitch, but the light frightens them greatly, and they quickly burrow away.

Combat ends

I'll give you a moment to recoup before I press on with tomorrow.

"I am sorry," says Conuld to anyone who was woken by his shout. "They startled me. Though they proved timid, they could deliver a painful nip and sting, I think. It was fortunate that they emerged near those of us who were awake, and not beneath a sleeper. Is there then no safe place to sleep, for they came both out of the sand and from beneath the rock? At the least, we should lay out the canvas sheeting as ground cover."
Conuld thrusts the lit end of his staff into the sand, and night returns.

OOC: light will last for just under 30 minutes.

Cludge Slatefist, Fighter 3 (HP:34 AC:15)

Cludge grins at Conuld. Not afraid o' a few creepy crawlies, is ya Connie? I seen ya run up to a ogre an' call him names, a wee buggie ain't gonna keep ya awake is it? he says with a chuckle.
As Connie returns to his vigil, Cludge sits and wraps his blanket around himself. Then, with a sideways glance at Conuld, rummages in his pack for crumbs and stale bits of leftover food.
Jus' hungry, they was, he mumbles to himself. When he thinks Conuld is not looking, Cludge rises and arranges the handful of morsels in a line on the sand about 10 feet away.

"In what you call the 'Lands of Fire', scorpions can grow bigger than a Westerner's 'house'. They will sometimes burrow under the sand and form a little cavity around themselves, using their sense of tremors to emerge when prey is nearby. It is important to learn the warning signs to spot such things," Lasair speaks matter-of-factly.
