A Sojourn in Sairundan [Judge: Manzanita]

[sblock=OOC]Okay then, with 5 humans and 6 camels we can travel for 16 days before tapping into the 34 waterskins or our personal ones. After that, we would need to use all the extra to water up the camels while Kurgahz can start using 1st level spells to Create Water if it comes to that. So we got a little more than 2 weeks before things start getting scary. :uhoh: [/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Watch order for the nights - is everyone happy with Conuld, Cludge, Kurgahz, Shadya, Lasair/Meliana, which I think is what we did before? I'm happy with travelling for two 4 hour blocks during the day. Endure Elements protects below 60'C / 140'F, which is 2'C hotter than the highest temperature ever recorded in the real world. It only protects down to -45'C / -50'F, though, which is not particularly cold by real world standards (the record is -89'C).[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC] I'm fine with that watch order and the 2 four hour blocks of travelling. (Even though we could go right through the middle of the day with all of us magically protected.)[/sblock]

OOC: I just checked back into the initial thread. Your initial horse or other animal was yours to buy if you wished, so you'll likely have to buy your own camel, though if you simply can't afford to do so, Shadya will probably loan you the balance out of the travel fund. The remains of the travel fund will be split amongst all the party at the end of the journey though.

OOC: Yes. Conuld 'owned' his horse. He really doesn't feel he should be stuck with a camel, though, because he'll look very foolish riding about on it back in Orussus. He did need an additional 50 gp to buy it.

The night is freezing, but everybody except for Cludge has magical protection, and he has a warm blanket, so you sleep soundly. The night passes uneventfully. (Cludge heals his nonlethal damage)

-------------------------

The next day, Kurgahz prays for water and protection from the elements for himself and Cludge. Conuld casts an extended endure elements on himself, and a shorter spell on Lasair. Shadya is still protected from yesterday.

As you travel, the desert slowly claims the trail that you are following. You notice tall poles with horizontal stripes on them begin marking the path instead. Shadya knows that these are very deep and were placed there by the Sairundani to guide foreigners and to measure the movements of the desert.

You rest for 4 hours in the middle of the day. Some of you see mirages for the first time, little wiggling heat waves that look like water through the midday haze. The spells protecting you keep you safe from harm, but it simply makes the heat bearable, not comfortable. You rest under covered areas.

You decide to stop for the night near some rocks, in a slight depression in the dunes. The sand is harder here, and the dunes around you protect you from the cool wind when you crouch down low.

You note that today is your 60th day out of Orussus. You've made good time, but the going will get tougher in the desert without a highway. (OOC: 1/2 speed is 16 mpd, correct me if I'm wrong.)

[Distance traveled: 2285 + 24 = 2309 miles]
[Time: 60 days]

Cludge and Conuld take the first watch. The others, exhausted, quickly set up camp and go to sleep. Despite the protection from the dune crater, the night is still cold. Cludge and Conuld are wrapped comfortably in their blankets as they keep watch. The camels breathe loudly. Cludge is leaned up against a weathered rock. Shortly after nightfall, he notices a tiny black scorpion emerge from under the rock (S1). It faces the dwarf and snaps its pincers as it strafes back and forth, threatening Cludge.

Conuld makes two tiny scorpion sightings of his own. At the same time as Cludge's little encounter, two black arthropods emerge from the sand at Conuld's feet (S2, S3). They snap at his toes, their tails drawn back in preparation to sting.

Round 1, 7:33:00 PM
Initiative:

Cludge
Conuld
Scorpion1
Scorpion2
Scorpion3

Cludge starts to his feet and moves into a defensive crouch (will go total defensive, AC 19).
Gerrra way, lil' beastie, he says. I don' wanna hurtcha, but I will if ya menaces me. Here, have a wee nibble, he says, reaching into his pouch and pulling out a morsel of iron ration. He'll toss it to the ground near the creature next round (this round, if adequate actions remain).

OOC: Shadya thinks he'd look cute :) She'll forward him 50 gp from the party fund though, easily enough done. Besides, we'll likely be able to trade the camels back for horses (in some manner) heading back, as they're worth more in the desert (or less in the wetlands).
