A thing about d20 D&D I didn't like, and still don't know why it was done...

What's this? The EN World equivalent of "love it or leave it?" :D :p

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. IT may shock ol' buzz there to learn that we already know about that website.

Heaven forbid we mention another game we like in the 'General Roleplay' section.

You must be joking. Was there really a table like that? :)

Yes. Yes there was. It was what allowed DMs to randomly determine the all-important question of whether the hooker the PCs met on the city street was a "vulgar trollop", a "haughty courtesan" or a "forlorn doxy" (or whatever the exact entries were). Make the determination was pretty critical stuff in the game too.

I wish I was joking. And let's not forget the tables for determining the value of ermine pelts as opposed to marten, mink or muskrat.

Or the tables for Opponent Maximum Height and Opponent Maximum Weight for monks by level. Too bad if your opponent was 8’2” and you were 10th level!

Or the grappling tables. Gawd!

But hey! We can't blame the designers for not being able to create a non-randomized skills table for players characters. They just didn't have the time!

I was always partial to the "brazen strumpet," although the "saucy tart" had a certain appeal, too.

It's more that there are like eight different threads on the first page of General right now that are somehow edition-wars-related, and the OP here is such obvious 1e v. 3e flamewar fodder. It's not "mentioning another game"; it's fomenting more discord.

I'm not trying to act like a mod; I don't run this board. I'm just suggesting, if you want to bathe in the 1e love, why not head over to Dragonsfoot, or at least flag your thread with the "1e/2e/OD&D" category. Why this pretense about proving your edition of choice is somehow objectively superior?

I love my tarts saucy. The random harlot table still gets use in my games, if the players are doing some wenching that is.
Sure, sure...we know you only use the chart for you players, and not on those cold and lonely evenings when a saucy tart would warm things up. :p

C'mon, buzz! Isn't it obvious that nothing without random prostitutes should be called D&D?!?! :D

Seriously, though, and back to topic, I am perfectly happy with a unified XP table.
