a very shocking missile

Hello All,
I am running a Scarred Lands campaign, and so I allowed all the spells in Relic & Rituals 2. My player just sprang the spell Shocking missile on me. The relevent stats are:
level :2
casting time: 1 action
range :touch
target :one arrow
duration :Permanent untill discharge
save :none
spell resist :none
infuses a single arrow with energy. The arrow can now be shot, and if it hits does normal damage plus 1d8+1 per caster level, to a maximum of 10d8+10.

This seems to me to be wildly overpowering. My first thought was that there was a typo, and the damage is 1d8+1 per caster level to a maximum of 1d8+10. My second thought was that permanent should be for a 24 hour period, or that it counts as a spell slot in use so that the slot can't be regained untill after the arrow is used. Otherwise my sixth level sorcerer is going to go around with a quiver full of 7d8+6 damage arrows. Knuckles would give his other leg for a crossbow like that.

Comments? Is there a typo? Should the spell be changed?
Thank you for your kind consideration.

It does sound really good for a second level spell. Given a few weeks off and one can easily fill a few quivers of them.

Woah.

First) That spell should not be permanent (Not unless it requires some very expensive ingredience). A 24 hour limit seems fine.

Second) Damage still seems a bit high. A bolt that does 4d8+3 at 3rd level. Give that to the 3rd level rogue 4d8+2d6(sneak)+3. At 10th level: 11d8+5d6+10. Call me cheap but I don't like it. Repeating cross-bow?

I would maybe allow it as a 3rd level spell. Yes. With limit duration to 24 hours and no change to damage I would accept it as a 3rd level arcane spell.

Shocking Missle has been erratted. The damage is as you surmise. The duration, rather than permanent, is 1 round per spell caster level.

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks.

If thats an example of the kind of spells in R&R2 I am glad I havent bothered to pick it up yet

It's not a bad book. Hit and miss with great ideas like the first. So, where have you been? I haven't seen you around for a while.
