Abondoning a class

My guess is that it would be somewhere around "denying a moderator's requests with a snarky and barely comprehensible comment." Unless you're prone to doing things of that nature, you're probably fine.

Bingo - the attitude did it.

Personally I don't like the color tag because it creates problems for the stylesheets. Remember that not everyone uses the same styleset to view the boards - what is visible in ENWorld default may be next to impossible to read in the lighter styles like Player's Handbook, D20 Modern, or Sky. Blue text is very hard to read in the Electric blue stylset because the backgrounds are, well, blue :)

Still, color tags are still in cause a lot of people like them.

If you want to color your text and be sure everyone can read it regardless of their styleset use the {hq} tag.

This text is highlighted. It's orange in ENWorld Default, Red in Player's Handbook and d20 Modern, and so on. The color is set by the stylesheet, so any future stylesheets will always have highlighted text that is easily readable in those sets.

Another option is to use a blockquote tag {bq}

[bq]Blockquotes indent the text and highlight it to boot :) These are very useful for posting large quoted passages from books like feats or spells.[/bq]

OK, thanks for the quick response.

Thanks also for the neat new tags. :D
I wasn't familiar with either one of them.

I like to use colored text in PbP, a different color for each NPC. Is there anything that keeps it readable in all styles (like {hq} does) while also allowing me to use multiple different colors (like {color=XXXX} does)? Maybe something like {hq1}, {hq2}, etc?

Not at the moment though that would be rather simple for me to add. I'll add it to my things to do list.

WRT color tags and stylesheets - you COULD simply consider defining each color uniquely for each stylesheet, you know. Make sure that blue text is readable in the Electric style, by picking which shade of blue it is. And so on.

I could do that. It would involve rewriting the bbcode color parser and adding, oh, about an extra 70 - 100K to each stylesheet. That's a lot more work than it's worth.

Huh.

I wouldn't've thought it'd take that much effort. Oh, well.

But 70K to 100K to each stylesheet? Are you serious? How much does it take to define that XXXXXXX (hex) color is what "color=blue" really means, wihtin that stylesheet?

I can read the blue just fine also. Some people might not like it, but does that make it "abuse?" This guy may have a slightly off-putting desire to cling to the blue, but to me that just looks like creative "use." Seems a little harsh to take away his ability to use color tags just because a few people don't like it.

So that I don't have my privileges taken away, what exactly is the line between use and abuse of color tags?

No, it doesn't make it "abuse." I take responsibility for this confusion because I wasn't clear enough at the outset, and I apologize to everyone involved - including Luvin - for this.

Guys, you should never be in a position where you feel you should have to second guess what a moderator wants. If I wanted Luvin to no longer use color tags - and really, why should I? It's a little annoying but certainly no sin - I should have said so explicitly*. Instead, I was trying to remind him that if fellow members are complaining about something then it's a little rude and tacky to keep doing it. My gentle suggestion understandably got interpreted as an order, and now we're in this pickle.

So: use color tags all you want, just exercise good judgment (and a bit of empathy for other folks) when using them exclusively. We'll let you know if it gets out of line. to a certain extent, annoying colors are self-regulating; use them, fewer people read your posts, fewer people respond to you, and pretty soon you might as well just be talking to yourself. That's one of the reasons that we don't worry about this too much unless someone is being really egregious.

Sorry to derail the thread. Carry on!

* Be aware that moderators often try to steer "problem" threads back with gentle suggestions, though, so in general it's best to follow moderator instructions even when they're not involved in a smackdown. One of the things that makes EN World run so well is that the members here use a phenomenal amount of good sense when posting. Believe me, we appreciate it.

I don't mean to be cocky, but I cyled through each of the stylesheets and I could see the colours fine. Sometimes when it was quoted it was hard to make out though.

@Spoony bard, those tags look useful, thanks.
