activation of a glove of storing...

yeah, how long does it take to whip your shortsword or whatever out of your glove of storing? Is it a free action? The description is that it's done with the snap of the fingers...

My favorite item to put in a glove of storing is a warhammer. The idea of a PC materializing a big hammer out of nowhere seems straight out of an anime (such as Nicky Larson) or a Bugs Bunny cartoon!

:D

How long does it take to put something back?

Is it a standard action to cram that warhammer back in?
BTW Mal, that's a fantastic image!

It's a free action to store as well as retrieve.

I find that it's most useful for Clerics or Fighter/Wizards. It allows them to always have a hand free for casting spells with somatic components, while also being able to fight with a weapon and shield. You just store your weapon (as a free action) when you need a free hand, and then retrieve the weapon (again, as a free action) afterwards.

No more dropping and then retrieving weapons or shields ever again! Plus, they are only 2,200 gp each, so you can get one at a fairly low level. In some cases, it even removes the need for Quick Draw.

Putting it back is a free action too?

Heh heh heh.
My cleric needs one of these. Check out the discussion of her Blindsight/Darkness combo here:

This tactic doesn't even need Blindsight:
Having a Glove of Storing means I could take my coin with Deeper Darkness cast on it, and pop it out at the end of my action every round. My enemies are engulfed in darkness while they act (no targeting spells, they're effectively blind (I am too, but who cares?) Then, at the beginning of my action next round, I can pop it back out and attack normally.

Granted that wouldn't be a viable tactic in all battles...but it'd be pretty cool under certain circumstances.

Is there any limit to what can be stored? I have a wizard with a pair of these gloves that would like to store his favorite wand in one glove and his bag of holding with all fo his gear in another.

Re: Putting it back is a free action too?

I would rule this won't work. Since the item merely shrinks down and stays in your hand but doesnt go anywhere you would still be in the midst of the darkness spell. The spells radius is not affected by the size of the item it is cast upon.

The example they give is a torch. A torch though has its output affected by how big its fuel source is. So a torch half the size of a grain of sand would put out a minute amount of light and heat and thus would be storeable without a problem in the gloves.

Items stored in the glove are in stasis (similar to the shrink item spell). A torch stored in the glove would put out zero light and heat.

And since the glove doesn't put them in an extradimensional space, theoretically it could store a bag of holding.

I think a coin with darkness cast on it would stop shedding darkness if it was placed in stasis (much like any other spells effects would be suspended while in stasis).

However, I don't think much of the tactic of storing the darkness coin in the glove at the end of your turn. It's great if you are alone, but it will affect your allies just as much as it affects your enemies. Darkness has a significant area of effect, a 40' globe of darkness is hard to manuever around. And Deeper Darkness creates a 120' globe (most battles I've seen in D&D don't cover nearly that much area.)

I'm not sure I would allow you to both retrieve and store in the same round. You are limited by whatever the DM thinks is reasonable for the number of free actions you get in one round.
