Try Half Price Books. There are at least two or three of them at just the Mason, OH, location. They sell for around $10 each.

I haven't bought any because I have no use for them. I only ever played Basic D&D during that time period, so that's where my nostalgial lies. I would definitely like to find a Rules Cyclopedia, but I never see those in used bookstores, and the ones on Ebay are just too expensive for a nostalgia-only purchase.

Keep checking. Every now and then you should be able to find an RC that goes for between $15-$30. I was able to get one off of Ebay for about $20.

I have a fairly hefty collection myself but we also now have a second generation of players coming up for my weekly game group so I will be needing them as we use the 1E rules to play with, especially since we rotate the DM chores. Right now we have in the gaming bookcase 7 PHB, 5 DMG, 4 UA, 5 DDG, 3 of each of the three monster books and 1 or 2 of the other 1E hardcover releases. And you can never have too many copies of Unearthed Arcana giving the poor bindings on them as they fall apart after continued use.

I was considering re-binding the PHB and the UA together into one book, maybe with some dragon articles thrown in. Maybe if I get a really beat-up PHB that I can justify taking apart...

I had the ebay bug for a while. I hunted down a LOT of old 1ed and 2ed stuff a few years back: original ToEE, City of Splendors boxed set, the Desert of Desolation series, etc. eBay is a wonderful thing. :D

It's only a problem if you have more than five copies ... or whatever the typical 1e party size was. Is it causing a problem with work, relationships or the law? Or finances? If not, then it's not a serious problem.

Oh well if he only has four he needs a few more, AD&D1 adventures tended to require large parties PLUS retainers and hirelings.

I went through that addiction a few years ago. Now the extras just sit on my shelf. I'll sell them someday, but for now I'm keeping them.

Just in case. ;)
