D&D 5E Adding proficiency to damage?

I understand wanting to help various martials, but this really leaves clerics and some of the lower-end cantrip users behind. Waiting for potent cantrip to kick in just holds clerics back in the lower tier (and those already limited by cantrips that require a save, rather than an attack roll) when they need it most.

Waiting for potent cantrip to kick in just holds clerics back in the lower tier (and those already limited by cantrips that require a save, rather than an attack roll) when they need it most.
Clerics and Wizards have their own perks that this isn't a concern (for me). They're already bolstered by other spells that enhance them in a variety of other ways, including their damage potential.
 

I agree about wizards, and I disagree about Clerics. I think further limiteing the damage opprtunities of clerics restricts the possible viable builds.
