D&D 5E (2014) Additional spell resources?

Just a note, both of those are concentration spells, so unless one of the two is coming from another player or magic item, I don't know of way to have both up at the same time.

Not if they're playing using 2014 rules. Spiritual Weapon only became concentration in the 2024 revision.

True- considering how hard they leaned on Concentration as a mechanic for spells, I was flabbergasted that Spiritual weapon had just a regular duration.

Even more so when I read the fine print, that said you can move the weapon- and get a second attack as a bonus action.

One could also simply use Improved Invisibility from a prior edition- perhaps copied off an old scroll found in a dungeon, or in an old spellbook, left behind in a past era. (or found in an old Lich's lair!) I've been doing that a fair amount, considering I'm running adventures written for AD&D, converted to 5e. Star Cairns had that built in! Old magic research/ construction factories built by Suel wizards and abandoned 400 years ago. Many of the vaults were still sealed. It's a cool thing for adventurers to find oddly functioning magic from times they only know from legends!

"Bah, you kids and your 'safety valves' for magic. Back in my day, fireballs expanded to fill their volume, lightning bolts bounced and you could stack spells 'til you fell over from encumbrance! And mind you, you didn't get 'em for free either just by lopping some goblin's head off - you had to go out and research them because there were no standard formulae nor would some mage share those spells he'd discovered himself. Otiluke's Resilient Sphere? Used to belong to him, and him alone! Along comes that blasted Vecna and reshapes all of magicdom, and he's done ruined it, I tell ya. Probably done courted that Mystra goddess a few universes over and figured her 'polite' magic and that damn Weave was good enough for everyone!"

He forgot to add power trippin, player hating, killer DM's to his rant.

Personally, I LIKE non expanding fireballs, non bouncing lightning bolts, and no critical misses allowed! Just because it pisses these DM's off so much, lol. They used these things to gleefully wreck characters for the joy of it. I swear, GENCON was actually begun as a gathering of DM's to compare body counts, and make fun of players, lol.

Now that we're older and wiser, we simply don't play with these guys.
