Addressing problems in a game.

Can anyone give examples of problems solved? We've seen the long lists of problems (in the other threads), and we're hearing how problems *should* be addressed, but how have things actually turned out when you brought them up?

Well, the campaign I'm running is supposed to be socially oriented. The players took that to heart, and we played two whole sessions with hardly a single dice roll in sight. This was great for most, but some players felt that they were being left out. Mainly because not everyone in the group is a great roleplayer in a social setting. Also, there was the problem that having 3 ranks in Diplomacy felt very much the same as having 13 ranks.

After some discussion I have moved back to requesting skill checks for most social situations. For example: one of the players has an easy time roleplaying an intimidating and scary character, but with no ranks in Intimidation his attempts at bullying people have become...quite comic...
The player is muttering about maxing out on Intimidation, and I'm happily looking forward to seeing him roll high enough check results, so he can continue succeeding in what he does best: scaring people into doing what he wants :).
