There was one I saw recently that was fun. A friend of mine has a teenaged daughter, and he often jokes about how he should meet her dates with a shotgun over his shoulder, or have them talk on the porch while he's sharpening a huge Bowie knife.

I forget what the commercial is for, but these young teenagers are ending their date and the boy leans in to kiss the girl. Dad, watching from the porch window, flips on the Christmas lights and it's like he turned on the Sun. The boy stumbles back, blinded, and falls over a snowman or something.

my personal favourite was called "Spud". It ran for about a week or maybe less before it got pulled for being "insensitive".

Basically the spot opens with a plain potato sitting atop a microwave whilst Air Supply's "I'm all out of Love" plays. the shot then cuts to an empty container of Imperial Margarine. cut back to the potato which is slowly rocking near the edge of the microwave. Cut to margarine container. Cut back to potato. Then the music stops as the potato rolls off the microwave and is impaled on some cutlery which is standing upright beside the microwave.
End commercial. No slogans, no voiceovers, nothing.

When I first saw this I had no clue as to what was going on. When I finally realized what had just happened, I fell out of my chair I was laughing that hard. The sheer simplicity of the idea combined with the dark comedy was in my opinion, genius. I'm glad that I was able to see it even if it was only once.

Favorite would have to be the John West Red Salmon commercial that features him fighting a bear for a salmon. Nice funny fight that ends with the guy pointing to the sky and when the bear looks up, he kicks the bear in the groin and steals his salmon. Very funny.

I get a chuckle about IBM's new Arthurian marketing campaign. "A giant sloth has attacked ... leading to great unrest among the customer base ."

I really REALLY appreciate that if they must throw ads in our face ... they don't talk to us like we're 10 years old.

Any ads you like?
I like the IBM ad from the same campaign where on person suggests building a catapult:
"What shall we use for ammo?"
"This" [drops a huge sack of coins on the table]
"You mean we are going to throw money at them?!"

I also like the Mastercard Ads with Peytone Manning cheering for regular people:
in the diner with the sign "D-Caf! D- Caf!"

Well - I really like the current Burger King ad where the guys are trying to get the grill to light. "Why won't this light?" says Burger King worker... then in walks a Stormtrooper and shoots his blaster into the grill a few times and it fires up. Gets me every time.

Some good commercials mentioned here. "Real Men of Genius" gets me every time.

I find myself laughing at the Tide Go-Stick ad. The one soldier has a stain on his shirt and is being belittled by the Sgt. Soldier uses the stick behind Sgt.s back and Sgt. flips out, "What did they send me, a garsh-darn Houdini?"
Ahh, laughing just thinking about it.

even better is the starbucks canned coffee ad with the whole cheering section, mascot and "rock-n-roll" stadium music for the office guy going to work. I love that.
